Just met a man - I want to work towards my own business

    Hello,

I am new to the forum. Here's the story. I recently graduated from college and already feel this restlessness that I need to do something. I work 9-to-5. But I want more. I want to make things or do things that I'm passionate about and in doing so make the world a better place. If that brings me money, great.

I just met a man who told me that he runs "businesses". I was just impressed with his drive, motivation, and the fact that he's 30 and has already done so much. I got some advice from him and he basically said that motivation is the key to success. If I have some idea on my paper.. I need to take the next steps. I need to turn the dream into reality. The idea is not as important as the motivation behind it. He also said that it's really about getting the right people to come on board with you. You need to sell your ordinary idea to stakeholders as if it was the best idea ever.

The point is that I really feel that there's a big part of me that is restless because I have always wanted to at the very least take a risk and launch my own business venture. I do have a few ideas but I am not sure if they are worth risking the effort? My reasoning to post this thread is to get some direction, guidance, advice, help, support, whatever I need to get myself acquainted with the entrepreneurial world.

My goal is to search for more ideas that I am passionate about and create a plan to turn those ideas into reality.

    Cheers

Well, the guy you met sounds like a smart guy. So many people wait for the perfect idea that they miss a lot of opportunities along that way. You don't have to create the next Facebook to make it in life. What type of job do you do now? I started my first company based on the needs that my previous employer had. When I proved that I could service those needs the word spread like wildfire. Sometimes the biggest opportunity in our lives is sitting right in front of us.

    Thumbs up Sounds Great

Well, first of all welcome to young entrepreneur. Second, I'm glad that the entrepreneur within you has been rattled up and you are ready to embark on the best journey of your life. I would love to chat more and get to know you a little better. I also started entrepreneurship at a young age and would never consider looking back. From the 8th grade on, I knew that I would never have a 9-5 job. Lucky for me, I have stuck true to that. Feel free to email me anytime. Chadholmesmrkting@gmail.com Have a great day!

Welcome to YE and welcome to Entrepreneurship! Just remember, indecision is your enemy. Make decisions and act on them! I am the CEO of an IT company and majority shareholder, and I am now successfully building a team in a new growing mlm company. Initiative has got me to where I am!

Goodluck and feel free to inbox or email me if you want to discuss anything! chris@vaiz.org

WOW! Thanks for posting bro! One of the things that I would suggest, when searching for your next business, is to go into an industry that you are passionate about. What "turn you on" at the mere thought? What has you talking about it for hours on end without losing ANY interest? Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your post. It caught my attention as I am in the same position as you myself. Recently graduated university, I'm not disappointed in my current 9-5 position but I find myself wanting more and am just waiting for the right idea to come along.

My contribution to this thread is what I consider to be the important factors in your (our) position:

    1) That fellow that inspired you, stay in contact with him and maintain regular meetings. Meeting in person is significantly better than asynchronous communication. Find out what motivates him. Learn his pitfalls and accomplishments. Tap into his experience by securing him as a mentor.

    2) Know you passions and talents. Having a passion and skill/talent in a given area gives you an edge to perform in industries where others would encounter a barrier to entry without the aforementioned skills/talents. Your academic background can also give you an edge into academic barriers of entry.

    3) Sources of motivation will change over time. Keep an open mind and explore new blogs, people, media, locals, anything that may be unfamiliar territory. Ideas can come from experiencing new things.

    Cheers and good luck
