    Just finished watching shark tank!

For someone who is trying to understand numbers and financing in their company that show is kick ass. Its amazing how some of the simplest patents are getting $350,000 in investments to make broaden their businesses. Its very motivating from a entrepreneur standpoint. This is the kinda stuff that were all here to learn and share so who out there is watching this show? Its great! Whoooos with me?

Yes I love the show my friend, who is also an entrepreneur, told me about it and now when we watch we say if we would invest or not and see how the sharks handle it. It's a great show and I generally don't like reality tv.

I find it odd that most people come in with ridiculous valuations. I wonder if any of them are taking the time to actually compile good numbers, or if they are pulling some numbers out of thin air that sound good.

Notice how the sharks laugh off any deals that offer them less than 40% of the business. Business owners come in with an offer of 10 or 15% equity stake in their company and the sharks want from 40 - 100%. That just goes to show you'd better have plenty of capital to make it on your own if you don't want to give away your company to investors.

Hi all.. brand new here but had to ask a question about "Shark Tank". I still can't get how it works. Let's say I own company XYZ and sell them 50% for $100k. We would now be partners.

    A) Is the $100k put into the company as cash? If that is the case, I've gained less than $50k since they now own 1/2 of that cash as well as 1/2 of any other property I had in the company.

    B) Or does the $100k go straight into my pocket for giving them 50% of my company (ie: they now own 50% of the company's assets, inventory and goodwill I built up and any patents). In this case the company assets stay the same but I get $100k richer for selling them 1/2 of my business.

    Any thoughts?

I believe that that 100k wont be YOURS but rathers a cash equity for the buisness.

Anyway i like the show alot tho havent seen much, its based on a uk show (which i heard is based on a japanese program) called dragons den, pretty cool you can watch lots of episodes of the british version on youtube, check out "ddrepeat" has lots of full episodes from all seven seasons.

As a fellow investor and entrepreneur I absolutely love this show. It is hilarious how clueless a lot of these entrepreneurs are. It reminds me of a lot of people I have dealt with. I feel so sorry for some of the entrepreneurs who are offered deals in exchange for 50%+ of their company and turn it down. They would rather have 80% of maybe thousands of dollars (or nothing at all) than 50-30% of millions.

Its not like investors desperately need to take a huge risk and give these people their money. I can turn down a greedy entrepreneur not willing to agree to my terms and turn around and have 20 more legitimate people knocking at my door and entrepreneurs need to realize that if they are seriously looking for capital.
