Are you thinking about buying an old beat up truck and loading up garbage in it or a more professional service like 1-800-GotJunk?

    What exactly did you do?

Did you just remove junk people put out on the verge? Like furniture? Did you actually carry the junk out of the house, load it onto the truck and take it to the dump?

Well i want it to be very professional but i dont have enough money to buy a truck like the ones 1-800-got junk uses but i would just buy a pick up and a trailor and use that. If you dont mind me asking Gaulkin how much did you make a month and what did you charge?

I did it illegally by taking advantage of the county dump for residents only and becoming friends with the guys that work there. I was very professional about my service and was always on time. It was me and a friend and i never registered the business, why you might ask? I was testing the market to see if i could go big with it when i was ready to and it worked very well. I ended up making about 2k in 2 months. We removed anything you wanted from anywhere you had it, thats how all the companies do it. If your going to do it out of a pickup truck the best priced to follow are from 1-888-EzGo-JUNK -Junk Removal, trash removal & garbage hauling in miami & fort lauderdale. The reason i stopped is because i did a removal for an advertising firm and they hired me on the spot. Now im making 2k a week instead so i couldn't turn away from that.

Here in Miami if you want to be legit you have to register your business, get insurance, file for your dumping permit which is 600 dollars plus 70 dollars per vehicle. Then when you dump they weigh you and charge you 70 dollars per ton.

I bet you can make really good money with all the scrap metal. If you pick up a washer or dryer take it down to the scrap yard. Im sure those appliances go for alot there.

From the reasearch ive done so far it seems like a decent business. The only concern I have is what to do when winter comes. I live in a city with about 60,000 people and theres only one other business that does junk removal but they also deal with dumpsters so i dont think theyre really commited to the junk removal aspect. I think there is a definate market for it here. Idealy I would like to be able to make around $5000/month.

Your not going to make 5k a month out of a pickup truck, your going to need to buy a real truck for around 25k. The problem with using a pickup truck is you don't get any repeat business, the next time they need junk removed they will call another company.

You mean like the 1800gotjunk style of trucks? I guess that would make it look much more professional.

Exactly, another downside to using a pickup truck is you have to make multiple trips to the dump because most people have more then just one load. With a 1800gotjunk truck you only have to make one trip which means you can do more jobs in one day.

So when you did it was there a pretty big demand for it? And what did you do in the winter?
