joint venture
people have been asking me to consult or help with some of the ideas I've posted, so I am proposing a joint venture in which we each would invest a smaller amount (15-20K), as this is something I can more easily manage. The venture would consist of a group of websites based on my ideas, some original, some not so, but popular web platforms nonetheless.
I already have myself and one other investor, so it would require 4 more. The business plan is in a rough outline phase, and some of the projects are already underway, so it would need to be revised to reflect what may or may not be done already, but I will send it to anyone interested.
A rough description is:
1:A music site similar to purevolume.com only with more for the artists. A note about this... I have a really good deal on what may enable a huge event for very little pricewise to help promote this site.
(soundpixel.com)
2. A community portal such as yahoo/geocities
(inegative.com)
a) member pages
b) web based email
c) Online Job search
d) a chat-based game site
e) classifieds/real estate
f) vendor shopping cart (like yahoo! shops)
g) Forums
h) groupware
i) e-cards
3. A meta search that provides multiple results (network wide, branded)
(snurch.com)
4. A dating site
(idevotions.com/iadoratins.com)
5. an alibaba.com style site
(stockmarqet.com)
6. A "hotornot.com" style site
(purevanity.com)
7. A video gaming forum
(inegative.net)
and the parent site, which is currently waiting trademarks and LLP licensing
8) hightensionmedia.com
Hightensionmedia will be a hub for the other properties, and also hold the ad distribution network. Advertisers will have their choices of contextual based advertising, regular banner ads, affiliate marketing and tracking, ad tracking, web site statistics and analysis and a slieu of other services.
I have already spoken with multiple software vendors to find the right software and the company who will integrate most of it so the backend of the whole platform is all tied together. I have reduced pricing on most of the software that will power each aspect and have 3 outstanding leads for marketing and promotional tie-ins.
What I am looking for are investors and one person well versed in PHP/HTML/MySQL and/or Postgres as well as CSS. It would be especially nice to have someone in or around santa clara with some knowledge of unix/linux, as I am in NY and the hosting will most likely come from Cali.
As I stated earlier, I have one investor besides myself, maybe 2, but I have rcvd a number of interested emails and messages from people on this site, so rather than try to help everyone separately, I thought it might be better to pool resources, let everyone work on their side of it and use the combinatin of wealth and resources to help each site build upon.
If all goes well, the breakeven looks to be under 2 years, possibly as little as 18 months.
Anyone interested should just drop me a line or message me.
[edit] can a mod please mov this to investors/partners?[/edit]

actually, I've picked up an investor from here, and I've picked up a couple of small consulting gigs too =) if that helps you figure it out a little easier...
I think one of the things you may be getting at is that people often look for investors with no money of their own. That's of course going to be a problem anywhere you go, because like most people, I know I wouldn't give money to someone who had nothing invested themselves.

Just an observation, 6 investors means 6 egos and opinions of all of your descisions. That could definitely be a problem down the road.

So you're going to create 7 sites that are based upon mutli-million dollar sites that already exist and dominate their categories. Oh and they aren't anything new or unique, they're all "like" existing sites. Good luck to ya.

Ummm, it's kind of obvious you don't have much of a sense about you - but simple math should be easy enough...
those sites, all competitors included, have a combined total of over 50 million unique users. There is absolutely NO need to have anywhere near that to gain a substantial revenue base.
While working as a sys admin for globix.com, I got to work a lot on the communityconnect.com servers. They had about 160 or so of them (scyld clusters.. yeay geeks! =) ... They are not nearly as well known as any of those other sites yet they do millions of dollars per year in ad revenues alone.
A site that gets 3mm page views (around 250,000 uniques) a day has the potential to net (not gross) over 250,000.00 per year. Basically, you should be able to net $1/yr for every user you have at a free site.
The idea is... try to follow me here... you have a number of sites that are A) popular, B) self sustaining (usually rely on some form of viral marketing) and C) are worth a decent value to advertisers and clients alike.
Your sarcasm is completely uncalled for, and shows a lack of thought on your part. I usually condone it from more intelligible people as a weapon against the boredom inflicted upon us by idiots, but you don't seem to fit into that.
While you're sitting there reading becoming agitated, read through the forum again, and see if you can make sense of it, as I have explained it in the simplest terms possible.
In any case, I've had two responses to this post already, and lots to some of my others. So, if nothing else... people are thinking.

mp, I know what you mean, you're absolutely correct. 2 of the investors, however, are bonded. If you understand how that works, they don't sit on the board, don't vote, they just expect an exact dollar amount return for their investment with a balloon payment at the end. This means with a couple more, the problem could still arise, but I am looking to see who shows up first and what they would like from the whole deal.

another thought to put this in perspective... take a guess at who does burger king's marketing? Those of you like me who have been watching CNBC and the likes for the past 15 years will know this one right off the bat
