    IT junk recycling, Expansion.

    Heya guys.

Im currently doing equipment refurbishing but im looking at doing recycling for older equipment.

Im going to follow the 1800 got junk business model.

Current competitor is 1800EWASTE - Australia's largest electronic waste recycler.

They charge $33 for a crt screen and $18 for a box.

My question is this, Can you be competitive, would the average punter want to pay that much?

Minimum call out fee is $66.

Im looking at the possibility of a E-Waste Skip bin. So you put it all in and charge a little less.

Opinions. Also whats the best way of doing some market research,

Im defineing the market as small business, Less than 20 employees and consumers.

    Thx guys.

    I wouldn't want to pay $66 + $33 + $18 = $127 to have my old computer recycled.

I would dare say that all of 1800EWASTE's customers are businesses/enterprises who have many machines to get rid of.

If their business is successful, I can't see why they can't provide the service nationally.

Good luck to you, if you decide to go ahead with it.

    Yeah Its intersting.

They charge $66 as a minimum.

So it would cost you $66 to remove your PC.

Then its 33 per extra screen and per extra system.

Its very interesting. I think its still very expensive.

I personally wouldn't pay a penny to anyone to remove something I bought or own that has value. I think these services should be offered for free so I am working on this sort of a business. But I won't call it "junk removal" nor electronic removal, doesnt sound too good with your customers especially when they are computers.

Any computer less than a Pentium 4 is useless. Cant run windows XP.

The systems im talking about disposal are Pentium 1-3 with crt screens. No value, No real use, Just throw aways.

I can install ASTERISK on those and sell them. To me they have value...One can use it as a phone system by installing asterisk, or maybe ubuntu...there are a ton of uses for it.

I already am running a business which does school/business/government.

I am looking at doing something aimed at home and small business with low volume low value systems.

CRT screens I give to a refiner who takes them apart and recycles them

Systems are sold off as scrap metal.
