    Issues with bottling

I have an idea for a bottled drink. Where can I find more information and ideas on how to get started? What are the legal issues with bottling drinks, etc.

How would I get started in selling them in stores?

all food items for sale in the USA across state borders need to be cleared through the FDA. Hire a lawyer to walk you through this process.

Usually you also want to get it approved via the Pennsylvania Dept of Agriculture. Again, you need a PA lawyer to lobby that one through the process.

I did a quick search on the phrase "bring foods to market" and found many articles.

I know people who ran small bakeries that supplied restaurants and they didn't need any national work, they just needed to set up monthly inspections with the Health Inspector and pay for their employees to go through the food handling certification class.

which is to say, it's not a walk in the park.

Don't waste your time making everything official. Just go out there, make and bottle your drink, and sell it. If there's a demand for it you can then afford to get an attorney etc, and go through the whole legal wringer.

umm, you open yourself up to risk quite seriously. Where I live in the USA, the farmer's markets that sell honey and jams are absolutely inspected every month or so. I know my parents know a beekeeper who cannot accept money for the honey he gives away to friends for that reason.

Are you serious that Canada doesn't have local food inspection?

I did a google search on "how to sell food" and that gave me good info.

But I absolutely bottled my own soda with grandma in the hippy 1970s and still have the bottle capper. Friends microbrewed their own beer in the 1990s. You can get bottles with corks at any kitchen supply store. But if someone can get sick if they store your product wrong then you open yourself up to risk.
