    Is this idea feasible?

Credit card age verification. Have all credit and debit purchases in the US of alcohol or a firearm, since 21 is legal age, checked against the cardholders age. This eliminates credit or debit purchases from an underage cardholders. Just a thought, I probably would never pursue, but would like to hear your feedback.

it should be fairly easily done, I have no idea how but I gotta think with the technology it shouldnt be that hard. Good idea tho! It would be nice to not have to worry about having an idea. I had almost this exact thing happen the other day. ran to the store down the street with just my debit card cuz i just wanted a snack. When I was buying it i noticed a new scratch ticket that caught my eye tried to get one, was IDed and didnt have it so couldnt buy it... So it would be cool if when u scan the ticket/alchool whatever it comes up that u need to be legal age. And when u pay the machine tells ur card u need to be legal age, if ur not it cancels the payment if u are it works and ur on ur way...

Exactly. I came up with the idea because a few years ago i went to way too many bars when i got my fake id. I would get all wasted, drop a few hunderd , and be all pissed off the next day. I started thinking, how can a 19 year old use his/her debit or credit card in a bar that only serves people over the age of 21....

There probably is a way to do it, and fairly easily.

But - if anyone wanted to seriously implement this it would be easiest to do on the state ID or drivers license. Which it already is encoded on the barcode on the back if scanned.

The only thing the debit/credit card being age sensitive would do is stop the unlawful ppl from using those cards. Plus if the barcode strip went bad you could be screwed for age verification.

Still a feasible idea, but I would think that CC companies would write their own software before they'd outsource and buy it.

SSM- the only problem with the IDs is up here in canada fake IDs are made by making a american ID and saying they are on vacation because u guys have a different barcode system as us. So if NA or the world could have a universal system on CC and bank cards it would help.

My ID scans in Windsor every time. They scan them at the clubs/bars there. So I'm sure they could scan the fake US ID's and see that it won't show any info. Thus, fake.

Yes, clubs, bars, and even liquor stores scan ids.... not saying too much. Fake Id's are just as easy to be encoded with the same information a normal id has. It's amazing what you can do with technology today... I came up with the idea based off the subway club card. The company provides a card swiper, tallies points on the club card, then forwards any credit card info to the appropriate company, i.e. Visa, Mastercard and so on. This concept would basically verify cardholders age, and simply pass it on, or deny the card if underage. Like I said, not something I would ever really pursue, but has tremendous potential in the United States.

I know that clubs and bars scan for ids and they're fairly accurate. Like Chase said, they scan your idea with a card swiper (like those they use for credit cards) and it will tell you the name and age.

    card

do most teenagers have credit cards these days? I know that i didn't have credit cards before i was 18...just a thought, for alcohol its a good idea though. Seems very feasible since they already have that program set up where they close your credit card if they detect that your purchases sways from your normal spending habits.
