Whats "the secret" ?
I dont get how u interpret it as a scam mate,
In my opinion it was quiet a good doco, i saw it as a concious way of interpreting things in life through the law of attraction.
In most ways its correct, if you have a shit day, and you think about that all day, its going to attract more bad things into that day, although if you try and think of all the positives, you might just have a better day.
Either way i dont percieve it as any type of scam.
I will say no, it is not a scam. It is a knock off version of Napoleon Hill's book:"Think & Grow Rick". If you do actually follow the general rules, then I believe you will achieve your goals. I think the movie is just for the general population of people who most likely wont achieve much in life. If you want better material, read the book I noted.
A Quitter never wins, and a Winner never quits.
I personally prefer "The Answer" who has John Asaaraf a contributor to The Secret. It isnt a scam at all, they are basically telling you to keep a positive frame of mind and if you think your going to have a crappy day you will as stated in the preceeding post. Basically telling you to think positive and positive things will happen.
i don't know if it's necessarily a scam. i am researching that program and thinking about joining. i always do my research before joining a program and i also listen to others testimonials first. So far, i haven't found anything suspicious about it. Don't assume that it's a scam just yet. Do a little research.
They're workin' hard but I'm hardly workin'
The Secret is a materialistic modern version of The Science of Getting Rich, written around 1910 by a little known man named Wallace Wattles. Wattles's "book" is more like a pamphlet, at around 40 pages. It is available for free online as a download, last I checked. But it is the absolute best and most concise statement of the law of attraction.
I found The Secret too greedy and dumb, sort of a degraded Wattles for lazy people. The movie especially is a stinkeroo, like where people get goodies simply by imagining they have them. The Secret also has some racist undertones, too, although most people don't notice them. If you want the real law of attraction, look for The Science of Getting Rich.
There's another book, slightly longer, from the same time period called As You Think written by an Englishman named Allan (James Allan, I think). Wattles was American. The general idea of both books is pretty similar, although Allan tends to fill in some blanks. As You Think is available at Barnes and Noble.
Left unsaid is that both books came out at a time of great political unrest, when revolutionaries thought that the solution to the great inequalities of wealth that existed during the Gilded Age was to kill the rich and redistribute their riches to the poor. Since people thought that Lenin would be proved right and Wattles and Allan proved wrong, the work of the latter languished for decades. With the failure of Lenin's vision of workers' paradise, a paradise that turned out to be held together with baling wire and duct tape, the law of attraction got new attention.
The Secret reminds me of all the attempts at "living Bibles" in the 60s and 70s intended to get youth interested in Christianity-hippie Bibles, jive Bibles, etc. The Living Bible movement eventually petered out because it cheapened the text, making it just another popular novel. The Secret does the same to Wattles and Allan. The century old prose in the originals can be difficult to wrap one's head around, but that makes you think about it.
The Secret is just the latest in the the long tradition of books that deal with the law of attraction. What's bad is that it probably offers the least substance of any book on the subject. They barely skim the surface of what is required to become successful and fail the make it absolutely clear that thinking positively does not equal unwavering belief in success.
The way it was presented in 'The Secret' was if you want something, wish upon a star and you'll get it.
In truth it's all about believing you deserve something and becoming obsessed with it. Within that obsession, the answers to getting to where you want to be present themselves. It's happened to me on more than one occasion.
As a previous poster mentioned, 'Think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill was a far better book.
No it is not a scam. It has worked for me. It is amazing, especially now, how many positive things have come into my life by implementing the principles into my daily routine!
