Is it legal to use the name of a city as part of your company's name?

Can you use the name of a city as part of a corporation's name? I am located in the U.S. and the city is a European city. The company's name would be New "_________" Construction. It fits well with the style we will have.

    Thank you

I am 99.99% sure you're allowed to do this. I don't think city names are registered trademarks

Um, I know there are a lot of places around here that use our city name in their company name. So I doubt it's illegal

Some cities do incorporate so you may want to check with your local chamber of commerce.

Okay that is good. I wanted to make sure. I didn't know if names like that would be saved for the city's use.

    Thanks a lot

    Sometimes it is even required.

Lets say you are incorporating and your NUANS search comes up with something very similar to the name you want ... you might be asked to put your city into your legal name to destinguish between the two entities.

I worked for a company once that had to do this.

It is legal, and I am sure the city would be flattered if anything that you use the name for your biz.

Yes you can. But naming your company with a city's name really limits your potential. Please do more research into naming. Unless you REALLY only want to do business in Ann Arbor, MI dont name your company "Ann Arbor Consultants"

But if you are naming from a different location, heck thats just a whole new thing. Maybe try something more creative and name after something monumental in that city...who knows. Just make money.

Thanks everyone. The name for the company is from a city not in the U.S., so I don't think I will be limiting myself. Unless I start building in Europe. Now for phase two, putting our plans into motion.

    Thank you
