    Is College Worth It?

We had a great post on our site today that included a pretty astounding fact sheet about college...

Really made it seem like the whole thing was a complete waste of money. I on the otherhand believe that just like anything else you get out what you put in.

College is a great market for a young entrepreneur to capitalize in and test the business waters.

Check out this fact sheet and let us know your opinion on the matter!

    Hope you enjoy!

I agree with the comment in your second line. You only get out what you put in. For some people college can work very well. For people that enjoy practical challenges and getting things done above all, college can be a complete waste of time and often unfairly have a negative effect on their confidence.

I read your fact sheet but I think that the statistics are too broad and are brought down by many of the idiots that you can find at college. If you know yourself and know that college is consistent with your way of doing things, then a resourceful person will get a lot out of college.

It depends what kind of money you're going to make without college. If I reach my goal of about $500 a day this summer and it's happening consistently, I'd make $90,000 approx in the summer before my freshmen year at college. One would wonder, is it worth it then?

I think college is necessary, and even if I was making a ton of money with the part time work I'm doing, I'd still go to college for fun and for a better understanding of business. What happens if your current financial income slows or comes to a halt? Then you have no source of income to fully sustain you and few opportunities.

Those are both great points! The college experience is going to deff be different for each party involved with it...whether your looking to socialize, study hard, start a business, whatever!

Its a great time for you to explore and decide what it is you are good at, what type of work ethic you have, your personality, traits, all of the stuff that goes into what you will be doing in life.

Everybody is different and it is up to ourselves to figure things out and make our own decisions. College is a great place to do this with out "real" consequences!

    Yes

Despite my extensive training and background in the kitchen I found it impossible to get a good-paying job until I got my degree in my field.

College is definitely worth it. Each degree you get is useful in your future business venture. You meet great people, learn great things, and experience a once in a life time opportunity.

Unless your Mark Zuckerberg, making billions, college is a crucial place to be.

Great fact sheet. I never went to college and have been doing great. There is thousands of high school dropouts and college drop outs that are millionaires and billionaires, not inherited but built on their own.

I think college is something everyone should at least try, it is a knowledge-building process, during this time one can explore who they are , learn to use the resources around them.
Maybe it’s not right for you, maybe it is.It's hard to say.

I am in college right now and it is a great experience considering all the knowledge I am gaining but sometimes I do feel it is a waste of time. I am the kind of person that does not do well it a school environment. I prefer to be on my own and learn as I feel necessary(which I do quite constantly. I am constantly learning new things everyday). For the most part I think that practically everyone can benefit from a college experience. I personally will probably not gain too much from college except for my business courses I am taking.

In order to determine if college is right for you one must weigh the pros and cons of it. If you will make more money by foregoing college then by all means go for it. If you are just sitting around waiting for that next business idea to pop into your head or still have much to learn then you could most likely benefit from a college education.

Don't think about college in terms of dollars and cents and whether or not you can be successful without. The experience of college is invaluable. The friendships you make, the personal growth, new experiences you can only get in college are the real beauty of college. Your college experiences are a social bridge between you and complete strangers.

If the college experiences exposes you more to the world around you and heightens your awareness about how much you don't know while helping you to thinking differently, then it isn't a waste of time.

We got some great posts on this thread guys, thanks for keeping the conversation going!

This seems to always pop-up as a hot topic whenever I sit and talk with a group of young entrepreneurs. Funny thing is...the ones that are still in High School always take the same side as the ones that are already successful and say that college isn't worth it. Meanwhile the individuals still grindin it out in school always say that its a invaluable life experience!

I guess there is always two sides to every story and the great college debate continues...

I find myself more well off without college. It may "legitimize" what I am trying to do more, but at a cost I am not willing to pay.

Many of my friends go to college, and its all more or less a little bit of work with a lot of party. I just don't like the "typical college student" anyway, so why would I submit myself to be surrounded by a large group of 'know it all' kids, whose Mommy and Daddy pays for their every want and need and just get on my nerves.

So, while they're studying, partying, whatever. I have a headstart on actual realworld experiences and no large sum of debt to burden me.

    I think I made a great choice.

On my 18th Birthday I moved out of my parent's home and with money I saved from working I got an apartment downtown.

Last year, when I was 20 I moved 1,500 miles away from friends and family to do what I currently am, loving life and enjoying everyday on a Orchard I manage and operate two businesses.

Plus, too many of my friends are going to school for stuff that when they graduate, they'll be lucky to be making more than 30K a year.

    Meh.
