I would also be interested in the answer to this, I would assume it is highly regulated by the licensing company.

I'm trying to remember where I read an article about this. I'll post back if I can remember; I read it a year or so back.

The article was about a husband and wife team that made a big splash at a trade show with a children's' product, some sort of tethered sippy cup or something. They signed a contract with an intellectual property attorney that had connections with the children's' entertainment industry (Nickelodeon, Disney, Sesame Workshop, etc), and from there they began negotiations with large children's content producers. If I remember correctly, arrangements were made where design and manufacturing were taken out of their hands and they received royalties on a sliding scale based on how many units moved per month.

I doubt this vague recollection of an article was of assistance, but If I remember where I read it I'll post back. It might have been entrepreneur.com.
