    In-game Advertisement

What do you guys think about the potential of in-game advertisement?

I was thinking about starting up an in-game advertisement agency, but for smaller level games, such as free online games. Split profits 60/40 with the game developer. But do you think businesses would be interested in advertising with free online games? I know that in-game advertisement for Xbox, Playstation, Wii.. is a million dollar industry.

I personally would have no idea how to partner up with big developers to offer advertisement, and other in-game advertisement agencies have already partnered with them.

What are your thoughts for smaller scaled games?

This is definitely a big - and growing - industry. Though I cannot recall the name of the company, Microsoft paid about 40 mil for an in-game ad company last year. There is opportunity, but the main issue is getting the ads in the games (I don't think advertisers would be that hard to find). Do you have a plan for this?

Just an idea right now. I still have a lot of research to do before I would go through with it.

I was thinking.. Partner with the game developers offer the 60/40. Then outreach to businesses that their products would relate to the age group playing the game. However as an agency we would be responsible for the ad design, so I would have to have a designer who could input the ad into the game.

And of course my agency would be small scale, dealing with mostly free yet popular games.

That would be pretty easy. If looking for indie designers, he could head over to GarageGames and such. If looking for larger in house designers and publishers their contact information is all available online.

Well if they are known developers and are working on another title, I will contact them. Otherwise, you have to network with independent developers through various forums.

It will be harder to sell the ads since the games could be a bomb. That's why I would try to negotiate reasonable pricing.

    ^^ Great resourceful link.

If anything, you should speak with FastBlade here on the forums, he is supposedly getting ready to create a game once he has enough money to invest into it, maybe ya'll 2 could work together or something. But yeah, the industry is a billion dollar industry as Akula said so with that comes the opportunity of needing to learn more of the in's and out's (cause with it being such a huge industry as it is, just like every industry) there is bound to be hundred's of things you need to learn about.

a project like this is not a small decision

    it's a career choice for 5-10 years

getting first hand training from the core players significantly improves the chances of the project being a success

I mean....anyone doing a play like this needs to keep things in perspective...somewhere down the line you're gonna need assistance - whether it's money, talent, infrastructure etc..and it's just unrealistic to expect this kind of assistance unless you've got the right names on your cv

anyway...i don't see how this thread is realistic

it's like me suddenly waking up one morning yelling "I wanna be a rock star!"

so the fuck what? no one cares

why burden myself with unrealized daydreams?

the only way things like this work out is through time and baby steps, like taking tyhe right role with the right employer

I'm neutral with this thread NOT being realistic and being realistic. On one hand, you can't always assume the worst, its always smart to try then predict.

So of course, you can always try it but remember as Akula said, you'll need the core player's in this industry to help you and achieve them goals. Even then it'll still be more of a challenge then you'll think since its a large market and you'll have road blocks stopping you in your track, but this is where it takes strength and the ability to overcome these. Atleast try, if it stops you to the point of no continuing, then you gave it all and came to realization that the industry wasn't for you.

So I'm neutral, on one hand, its possible you can achieve this thread to become a reality (opposing what Akula said) but also Akula stated a good point though, you can't assume its going to be easy 'nor expect anything easy AT ALL in this game of business.

I think this is achievable .
You still have alot to learn and you will make mistakes on the way but if you don't ever try you'll never know.

Be careful in regards to your money don't just throw it away.

Take in consideration this was just an idea. Any ideas I have I like to discuss them with others. Tomorrow I could come on this forum and say, I was thinking about starting a condom company what are your thoughts. I just like to discuss possibilities and the views of others.

Maybe me posting this has helped someone else out viewing it. But great posts, enjoyed the feedback. I personally don't know if I would pursue this. I don't know about the rest of you, but I get a million thoughts a day I don't understand why I am interested in business I'm 16.... I don't even think thats normal.

    My actual future goals.....
Pursue a degree in business. Once I am 21 years old, find a sales representative job in the wine industry. Learn the ropes for a few years. Then I would like to start my own wine importing company. Until then, maybe I'll become a rock star ;-)

    ^^ COMMENTS:

Condom Company - LifeStyles and Trojan would have you stomped... ha ha, but hey, sexual diseases are still around, one more condom company won't hurt.

    Rock Star - Good luck

Wine Company - Atleast we know we'll have somebody to give us some free alcohol to celebrate

Other then that, good luck in whatever you do.
