Importing w/ Alibaba??

I want to buy some composite hockey sticks from China suppliers through alibaba.com Examples:

I’ve never done this before, so what are my initial steps. I know that I should request a sample, but what is the proper way to do this, aswell as set up a connection with the manufacturer. What conditions should I set? Any step by step would be greatly appreciated.

just an fyi...

while i was in iraq, alibaba was a universal term meaning terrorist, insurgent, bad guy, etc.

i can remember while i was talking to iraqies and pointing to different houses and asking "alibaba" to see if they knew if bad guys were in the house.

anyone know what alibaba actually is, I was thinking a gypsy or peddler...?

be careful with them. my partner was researching phone costs to see if it was worth it to sell phones and one of the potential suppliers was a scam. fortunately we did our research.
