Where does one learn about importing and exporting. What are general practices? If I have some goods coming in, can I expect them to be ready to sell, or will some repackaging be in order? Would I ultimately be responsible legally for these goods, for instance, if someone has a reaction to the product and they are looking to sue someone.

I need to get involved in selling some goods, but I do not see a market for selling things that are already common here in the U.S., unless I can do it at a large discount.

In Canada we have the Export Development Agency.

If someone has a reaction to a product i figure the manufacturer is the one who should get sued.

I could see the import company being sued. Especially if the company manufacturing the product does not have an office in the country.

You have profited from the sale of the product, I would assume you can be help liable (especially if the only other option is to go after a company in a 3rd world legal system).

Best bet would be to ask a lawyer who specializes in this.
