How important is it to have a dedicated, effective and functional office space in your business?

It is difficult to work out of a home office for obvious reasons. So where does this come into play for young entrepreneurs and how important is it? When do they make the commitment and how much of this should be a priority?

I happen to think it is critical. It is easy for me to be distracted by all the different things going on in my house and it also allows me to seperate business from home life. I found it difficult to stay productive when I was working from home.
