Import

Hello to everybody.

I just recently returned from a holiday overseas. During my holidays I found this factory that makes furnitures and I started thinking about importing these to australia.

Before I spend all this time and money I just have a few questions I would like to post as I have never imported/exported items before.

1) How and where does one find buyers for these furniture. The furniture is of good quality and relatively cheap and I plan on just importing them and selling wholesale to retail outlets and buyers

2) How does one raise the capital required. It would cost me about 20,000-25,000 to import a 20ft crate full of furniture here into australia. I understand that this is a lot of money but you have to spend some to make some.

3) What kinds of percentages does a retail outlet mark up on. This would greatly help in me deciding on whether I can make a profit on importing furniture.

Also, is there anybody out there that is in this kind of business or has imported before. I would like to talk to any of you (preferably those in australia) for advice.

I have msn, aol, and my email account is CarlPaulo@hotmail.com

Usually for me i make sure shipping does not make up 20% of the total value of the goods. Maybe this could be a good guideline for you. Of course different industry/goods have different ways of what type of shipping cost is OK.

I suppose you are talking about few hundred thousand dollars worth of furnitures.
