Question I'm doing some research, and would like you all to respond please.

I was getting my car serviced the other day, and the Technician asked me a series of questions about

my car's maintenance related issues, and I didnt know the answer. This sparked an idea. Please

answer the following questions to help aid me in my research. Thanks

    1. How would you rate your knowledge of automobiles on a scale from 1 to 5 ?

    2. Do you travel out of state often?

    3. Do you have multiple vehicles ?

    4. Do you generally use the same service provider when getting your car serviced ?

    5. When getting your vehicle serviced, do you take it back to the dealer, or do you normally go somewhere else thats cheaper?

    6. Does the mechanic ever ask you questions about your vehicle/ AND do you know the answer in most cases?

    7. When your out of state and getting your car serviced, or perhaps when your at a different local shop, have there been times where the same thing was done to your car MORE than once (oil change for example), and you paid for it, because you couldn't remember the last time you had one?

    8. Is your vehicle the 2nd most expensive thing you own ?

    9. How concerned are you that your vehicle is always in the most prestine condition on a scale from 1 to 5?

    10. Have you ever felt you paid for un-necessary repairs/ or services ?

    11. If there was a web-based business that charged a small fee for every time you got your vehicle serviced that would 1) save you money in the short & long run from NOT paying for services you may not need, and preventing paying for a service you might have already had rather recently. 2) Allow you the freedom in not worrying about when the next time your car needs to be brought in ( we will call, txt, or send an email to remind you) 3) We would give you a heads up on what maintenance repairs your vehicle might need in the future, and their cost allowing you to save money and plan ahead. 4) offer our members a way of writing reviews and rating service providers about their experience.

    Thanks for taking the time.

I'm probably a bad person to ask because I'm a huge car enthusiast and I use to work on building cars and engines so I'm not the typical consumer. I don't really care if my car is in perfect pristine condition or anything but I do keep track of all records and work done on it and know when things need to be done. Your service would be better targeted towards general consumers.

I'm 20, and have never owned a car and never intend to buy one. I will say this, its pretty obvious that the general consumer technical knowledge of their automobiles is very low. Its the less routine with high shop to shop variability that get people, nobody is going to overpay badly for an tire/oil change. Also the general concept of pay money to potentially save money usually doesn't go over well in the service market. People like to purchase services with concrete savings, ex: VoIP vs traditional telephone.
