If you start a company off as a LLC?

If you first start your company as a Limited Liability Company, can you later change the structure to be taken public? Say my business takes off but it is a LLC and I want it to be listed on a stock exchange. What would I have to do to change the structure to be taken public?

Im sure you can register it as an INC., I'm not sure, however, how to go about doing it. I would recommend doing some research with your state government that you first registered your LLC with. Also talk to your accountant he/she should be able to let you know the details.

It does not matter if your company is LLC or Corp. Both can have stock. It is easier to do it with a corporation because it is just a simpler structure for investors to understand and rely on.

Separately, you can change your structure as you wish. As long as you get your partners on board with the change. Talk to your accountant or a Tax attorney for details and consultation on your specifics.

If you decide incorporation is the way for you, get with an attorney to file articles of incorporation with your state's department of corporations.
