I want to launch a blog

HOW DID YOU DO IT, WOULD YOU DO IT.

I want to run a succesful blog, and I would love to hear what you think.
I was reccomended to wordpress but I have no idea what to do.
Im experienced with building websites so I could build it myself. What would you recommend? With the regular blog features I'd like to also add affiliate programs i.e. adsense, enable my own SEO etc.

I'd like to be able to aquire monthly income from this blog so I would have to insert some affiliate scripts and possibly other little niches to spice it up.
I'm sure i'd find this interesting as well as many other entrepreneurs wishing to set-up a succesful blog. Links would be nice too. Thanks.

    Hey JTR,

Wordpress is a good option. There are a good few plugins around to integrate adsense or other affiliate programs as well as some SEO tools.

If you feel confident building one yourself from scratch, that would work too and give your blog a unique feel to it (although this is largely possible with WordPress as well because there are so many ways to customise).

So, I'd stick with WordPress unless you really wanted to build your own as it will save you a lot of time!
If you need a hand just drop me an e-mail (address in sig).

Thanks a lot, one thing I really want to know is how much flexibilty I have with hosted blogs such as wordpress. I.e. with scripts, affiliate programs etc.
And what free blog's do you recommend (in term of seo, popularity, designs, effieciency). Thanks again.

    1. I definitely recommend Wordpress. It is the most completed blogging system to use.

    2. I think you wordpress is good enough so spend your time to build your blog's content instead of building a website yourself. Bye the way if you familiar with building a web site, wordpress is easy for you.

    3. if you are looking other option, you can go for blogger.com or squidoo lens(you can make it like a blog). They are free but you don't have any option over the domain name and url. However many experts recommended that you must own a domain name if you want to make some true money.

Definitely go with wordpress. I have seen many advantages with wordpress over blogger. Wordpress seems to get indexed in search engines better. Don't know that for sure, but just from the experience we have had with many many clients we have set up the blogs for, thats what we have noticed. Hope that helps.

WordPress is pretty much a very user-friendly platform. Once you get to (calmly) survey the dashboard, you can pretty much figure on how to do a post. You can select a theme and just post away with the content. Don't rush into things. Try to learn things slowly.

    Good Luck!

Thanks a lot for all of the advice, seems like I'm going to go with wordpress. I'll be posting to tell you how it's going. BTW I've heard that there is open-source software available from such company's as wordpress, which initially you download a full wordpress blog but you have complete freedom over it. Is this true? Thanks again

Nice blogs, I just checked them out. If the design optimization is that flexible I'm definitely going with WP.

I'm certainly not trying to be a downer, so please don't take it that way. But make sure you are spending equal time on your content that you are on your ideas for design, advertising, etc. Many a blog fails due to terrible content.

I use wordpress too, and would totally recommend it.

Take my two blogs as examples. Drop ship digest (in my sig) is my new venture. I've been writing for a few months now and have lots of posts pre written and ready to go. I just used a free template to get it started. I hate the look, but I've worked hard on the content and will upgrade the look soon.

My other blog - The Men's Gift Guide - has been going for about a year. I spent money on a custom theme but still constantly work on the content (although I've been out of town for the week)

Anyway, my point here is that content is key. Two totally different looks, but with content still the focus. Great design can not hide a poorly or otherwise unkempt blog. But great content can make up for any flaws in design.

    Just my two cents.
Check out my blog about drop shipping: www.dropshipdigest.com

Nothing to sell you, just good honest information about the drop ship business!
