I want to buy a domain name already owned. How do I do it?

I would like to look into buying a domain name already owned and registered by someone else. How do I go about finding the contact info and possibly try to buy the domain name?

Whois.net - Domain Names <- Look up the site, then contact the owner. If it is a private registration, you could contact a domain negotiator.

No problem. After you get the owners info, just send him an e-mail or something.

GoDaddy will do it for you but it is really expensive. It's like $70 upfront, plus like 10% of the total purchase price as well.

If I helped you or you just want to donate a blogroll link to me, it'd be much appreciated. Do I expect that anybody will help me out? No, but it never hurts to ask

Don't use GoDaddy for ANYTHING except registering un-registered domains.

If the website is register and has no content on it, you can usually get it dirt cheap, however if there is content on it, it can cost thousands to a hundreds of thousands depending on if the person wants to sell and how much.

I am in the process of trying to contact the owner. After I do and IF we can negotiate a price, what do I do next?

How do I handle the transaction? Do I need to draft up a contract and have a certain date/time where the website is handed over, etc.? How do I transfer registration?

    Thanks again

I'm not exactly sure on that, though I don't think a contract is needed.

Is there a way to get an appraisal of the domain name in question?

Any legit websites out there that would be close on the price?
