I Need Input On Business Idea Please!!!

I just had an idea for a business and I was wondering if you guys could possibly give me some input or advice. I live in a typical college town. There are always parties going on particularly pool parties. Just this summer at a pool party thrown by my own apartment complex, we went through 26 kegs!!! The company that funded the party actually bought the local super market out of kegs. This is where I came up with my idea to open a keg store. We would sell a variety of different kinds of beer. . We could cater to house parties, pool parties, special events and such. We could also sell party items like cards, dice, shot glasses you know stuff like that and bigger. It's just a little idea I had and was wondering if I could get some input. THANKS...

Why wouldn't one purchase a keg directly from the distributor?

the distributor as in the grocery store? The idea behind it is the whole marketing aspect. If you think in the terms of party promoting and such you could create an image for yourself. Instead of a party promoter thinking first to buy kegs from a local grocery store, they would come to you. Plus there def. can be more then one distributor of kegs in a single college town?

Any liquor store pretty much sells kegs. And you can get as many as you want with one days notice. So what would make you any better or different?

You should probably start by selling some of this stuff directly from your apartment. Your advantage could be that you can deliver the stuff right to the party from your apartment. You can even sell customized shot glasses and party items. Before you become an official store you might wanna try testing your business out by doing this.

He is going to sell kegs from his apartment because college kids don't care where they get it, as long as they get. (not saying I know anything about this)

But seriously, the apartment idea is a good one. Looks to unprofessional.

This could actually get you into some trouble if you do not do it correctly. The selling of alcohol is highly monitored by the ATF and local agencies. My parents own a convenience store and they are constantly having to go through different checks and approvals and such for their liquor licenses. I am not sure how it affects the reselling of alcohol bought from a retail establishment and not a distributor but I would find out before going into this type of business.
Finally a fun, delicious product that practically sells itself!

The distributor as in the distributor. A distributor supplies all local convienient store, restaurants, bars, etc, with their beer/wine and alcohol. Most beverage distributors also carry sodas, energy drinks, and things along that nature. Most likely there are a few different ones. Anways, point being, it's easier/cheaper to go directly to your distributor to purchase kegs.

What you are proposing is opening a liquor store. I don't see how specializing in kegs is any different than any other liquor store. Your market share wouldn't be big enough with just kegs anyway.

I am not a drinker myself. I don't like it and disagree with drinking, but when I looking at it in a business aspect I think you could have a good business there. I know that college towns are know for parties. I don't know anything about kegs and what all comes in them, but what you have just said. If you can provide all different kinds and a lot of it. You would do good. The catering part you need to find out what kind of licensing you would need where you are at.

    Just my input.

Might there be laws regulating that a distributor is not allowed to sell at retail? That a retail sales license is needed to do so? (This is a hint.)

Look, what would your competitive advantage be? Why would consumers buy their kegs from you?

    Are you less expensive?

    Do you deliver?

What do you offer that others don't?

Hey, way back in the Dark Ages of the 80s my buddy and I ran successful pool parties all around Atlanta sponsored by radio stations, distributors, etc. Try that approach!
