I need advice on what to do with my job?

    Hi,

Sorry, to be a bummer but I'm really sad right now. I'm currently a software developer working for a company and I am also starting my own software company. I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur and even started a small snow shoveling business at the age of 13. My job is driving me crazy right now. We are working with technologies more than 12 years old, the migration to a newer technology has taken 2 years and we are only 10% complete, and the company is not serious about innovation. I'm not learning anything. Also, my company has an inventions and ideas clause that every employee has to sign. This clause says that any idea you come up with while you are employeed with the company belongs to them. My attitude at work has just been flat out poor, I will not lie. I long to be a full fledge entrepreneur and am working on submiting my idea to a seed funding company. My boss expects me to work on bugs after work hours, but that's when I work on my own business stuff. My co worker mentioned to me today that it was obvious I didn't want to work there and that I was free to leave anytime. He also went on to say that this was the "BEST" work environment I will ever work in. I don't really care about how good the work environment is...I just want to live out my passion and make money. I'm a really, really optimistic, upbeat and friendly person. Everyone loves me, but my personality has done a 360 and I'm miserable. Please advise. Thank You.

I would never leave a job until you at least have something lined up so you can support yourself. Maybe start looking for another job, and focus a little more on your "company". I would also not quit to pursue your own business just yet. The "smart" thing to do would be to wait until you have enough income coming in from your business that you can, again, at least support yourself.

DUDE! Great post. You have to begin to focus on an idea that you are most passionate about and go out on your own. Why would you ever want to put up with these people who aren't passionate, innovative and creative as you? Aren't you worth more than that? My best advice would be to bootstrap a small venture and go out on your own NOW! Take a risk. Take a chance. You are wasting your life with these people and there is no point in working on something you don't feel happy and passionate about. You have an idea. You have the drive. GO for it then! Also, start networking on Facebook, Twitter etc. and build up a strong network of passionate people such as yourself. Start here: Young Entrepreneur | Facebook. Good luck!
