    I have a new Product....What now?

Okay, so I have designed a new product. It is an outdoor game that can be played by people from ages 12 and above.

In term of construction, the structure is extremely light and will not involve much costs to manufacture (atleast I dont think)

I already have a prototype constructed and had a lot of people already play it. Based on their feedback it is an extremely entertaining and creative outdoor game.

They all a believe it has the potential to be a million dollar game.

After I apply for a patent on this game, what are the next steps I should be looking at.

I feel It would be best to license this game out to a company who will do all the of the major legwork and for me to collect some sort of royalty. Anyways I wanted to know what you guys think.

Should I be constructing some sort of proposal or sales pitch presentation for a firm? What should the next step be?

If you really think your product has potential then make up a business plan, get a loan or investor then hire a lawyer and manufactor the products yourself.

Why after all that hard work and time you have invested in the product would you want to sell away for a fraction?

First question I ask is why do you want a patent?

Secondly it is very hard now days to collect royalties companies put so much money into their own RD team they often don’t want to invest in products elsewhere.

Lastly what is stopping you bringing this product out yourself?

If it has the potential of million dollar game, I think you should be the one who must do all the tedious work to market your patent game.

I also think that you have a new marketing niche here for offline or even online business. Why don't you try to sell it online? What you need is to create a website, put all the information about your patent game and sell it. You can also create affiliate marketing section on your website so that people would not only enjoy your game, but they can also have good benefits from selling it.

Patent it so that nobody else can copy it and sell it.

You are right about the royalty aspect of it. Maybe it would be best to market it or manufacture it myself.

How would you market something like this to raise awareness?

“Patent it so that nobody else can copy it and sell it.”

Unfortunately a patent isn’t going to do that.
A patent only gives you the legal right to prosecute somebody if they do infringe on you product. Sure it might warn of some companies but if a large company does infringe how do you intend to be able to afford to prosecute against them, not just monetary wise but being able to afford the time.

If companies like Nike can’t stop people copying their products how do you expect to.

Rather then trying to protect and spending your money on protecting the idea, build a brand and let the whole world no about it.
