i have a great idea i want some insight on

okay first of all i finally have gotten tired of the normal life having all these ideas and invention ideas and not putting them to any use. i'm 21 and i did 2 years of school at a university in Tennessee and i realized it wasn't for me. i'm not a waiter trying to save money to fund my ideas. i currently live in southwest Florida where all the trends and fads are BOOMING. i look at the ages from 16-28 down here as just money i can profit from. i'm new to this site and found it recently using google.

after all that being said, i have a very good idea i know would profit that is an improvement on an invention that is semi-controversial. my idea would be to patent the idea and sell it to a big company that is already in the business.

if anyone is interested in helping me with any advice or anything please let me know. i have not listed the idea because i want to protect myself, but honestly if there is anyone out there who's interested, please let me know.. this idea has the potential to be HUGE if made correctly

    thanks

    paul

You should probably specific more of what you are looking for in this partner. Are you looking for someone familiar with patent law? Business? Somebody skilled in the field you are looking to break into?

    Semi-controversial usually means very controversial.

Patenting a controversial idea with the thought to sell it to a larger company seems to me like something you'd get screwed on. They might agree to buy it, if your price is low enough, but otherwise they'll just reverse engineer it, change one aspect so they don't violate copy write law, and then sell it without you.

At any rate, I wish you luck. Let us know how it goes.

the kind of partner i am looking for is someone who has knowledge in areas i do not. some of the areas i am talking about are patent law, prototype building, and how to go about getting in touch with some of these companies. if you are interested let me know so i can talk to you more about the idea.

do some research on all this first would be my guess, because you can get most the numbers on your own, and prototyping is not to difficult to do anymore.

I would just like to interject on a comment I read in your post.

"i look at the ages from 16-28 down here as just money i can profit from.."

You may not have meant it to come out like this, but it comes across like you are trying to take advantage of people.

Most entrepreneurs that make it in the world do so because they are trully trying to help people/solve a problem. Of course making money is important for all your efforts, but trying to take advantage of people will usually not lead to a long lived, successful business. Don't focus on the Short-Money.

I do wish you luck! If you need any help, let us know!

jason.. i did not mean it that way. i myself am only 21. however, it is no secret that my generation is a trendy bunch. " if it feels good do it, if its hot i want it " that mentality is what i despise about my generation and also makes me want to profit from it. my idea is helpful to a certain group but also can make quite a few dollars. i didnt mean to offend but if you lived in south west florida and saw what i see in my age group you would understand.

I wouldnt say its just our generation, look at the financial state of most families today. Buying more than they can afford with money they don't have. Sadly its usually because they are uninformed or misinformed.

If you have a product idea chances are its already been thought of, this doesn't mean you cant do it better or that you should stop working on it. Everyone has ideas though, google could make millions off of this and probably doesn't even realize it.

It does sound like you are just trying to turn around a quick buck or two though. I can relate though some of my ideas I used to think I would just patent and sell myself. Once I realized what I was doing though, it felt like I was doing all the hard work and letting someone else reap the rewards, and you lose control. It may even be used for something you never intended, and your still the originator.

Just a some food for thought
