You can forget about any major chain like Allstate or State Farm, they just tell me to call an independent agency who either won't answer the phone or won't call me back. I guess they must not need my money!
Anyways, I really don't know anything about how it works, but I was thinking about the trucks that deliver food to grocery stores for example... I am more interested in this type of business, one where you have a contract with a company to provide transportation of their goods on a semi local basis. Obviously, I'm not going to land any huge account with only one truck, and especially since it's 10 years old, but I am more interested in doing something along those lines due to the fact that the income would be consistent. I would likely be hiring a friend/brother/random person to do the actual physical work so that I can concentrate on the other aspects of the company's operation as well as my other business endeavor's that I cannot abandon.
I'm thinking the only real way to get any contracts would be to target local small to medium sized businesses and literally just go "door to door" and have some type of pamphlet or brochure made up as well as business cards and try to talk with the owner/manager about how much they are paying for their transportation costs and try to o"outbid" their current provider. I would imagine many companies already either own their own truck and have someone in-house do their own deliveries though, so I'm not too sure that this idea is feasible for a guy with one 10 year old truck.
Any input on this would be great. Thanks again for the replies.
