And I was wondering if anyone here had any tips for me about the roles of publishers and newsagencies, and what steps I should be making to get my publication into distribution.
Thanks for all of your help!

Starting a magazine this day in age is pretty hard and risky, but i do belive a magainze can be succesfull if its niche focused, anyway check out this website i found once when i was interested in the same, magazinelaunch . com
You should also give some details about the type of magazine you plan on launching.
Good luck in your venture. The magazine sector is in difficulty right know. However, this is an opportunity for something new and different.

It will be fairly difficult to start and launch a physical magazine in today's market where print media is hurting. I would suggest starting an online magazine and then attempting to turn your readers into physical subscribers once it becomes successful - of course this brings up the age old questions...Why pay for something when you can get it online for free?
Magazines will make you a lot of money, if you know how to price your ads and have a firm grasp on your total expenses. I own a publishing company that puts out Menu Guides in several towns, and it's been a good move so far. We've got 12 employees now and we started less than a year ago.

Start a magazine is not so easy, you need have good writers and put on ads....just like a big business.
