How's my idea?
Today nail salons have spa chairs and I want to start a company that makes entertainment system that could be mounted to those spa chairs. The system consists of a 7" to 10" touch screen LCD and a mini computer. With this system and user friendly software, the users can surf the web, play video, music and games. Because of the touchscreen, they could just use their fingers and not have to use a mouse or keyboard. The cost for each system will be at least $400. I'm close to finish developing fully functional system.
I know this is a broad and non specific question, but how should I market a product like this? Is it even a good idea?

Two things:
1) An LCD at a nail salon that is touch screen so you don't use a mouse. Um, if you're getting your nails done, you don't want to press a touch screen, it would mess up your nails.
2) More importantly, this is heavily dependent on customers perception of such a product. I would guess that women were prefer to chat with each other rather than stare at a monitor, but that's for you to do the market research.

This idea is not viable for a nail salon, hair salon or any other type of salon. Women go to these places to be pampered. They're not interested in playing video games or watching tv. Of course, you don't have to take my word for that. You can do your own research.

Would probably work better for guys at a barber shop. Or what about a screen that displays advertisements in front of a urinal?

I actually think this is a descent idea. I have been to salon with my finance and i know that she thinks this would be a fun idea. However it seems a little much to be able to surf the web and everything if you want to make it just a TV and remote and just mount the remote into a control panel in one of the armrests i think this would be much more viable. That just my two cents.

I don't think the idea is too good. Hooman's idea about the barber shop is better. My barber shop just renovated and got plasma tvs for over every chair. You can imagine how many more younger customers he is attracting in.

Go visit some salons and ask the owners what they think - then you'll know!

...or go visit salons, observe customer behavior and ask the customers.
Are the customers chatting with each other? Are they reading magazines? Are they focused on the mirrors? Are they bored out of their mind desperately looking for something to do? Before you attempt to solve a problem, you have to make sure the problem exists.

Hmmm, I feel like I'm on a international plane ride and the TV monitor is attached to the seat in front of me.
I find when I get my foot spa I love to read a magazine and relax. The idea of a TV doesn't sound very relaxing.
A way to advertise possibly see if you can have two entertainment channels for an example 'Entertainment tonight" or 'E" then have a home network channel.
These are the things that women like to watch.
Possibly team up with these networks and make additional dollars$$$$
Good Luck!

a company that makes toilets that shoots your poo everywhere upon flushing sounds like a better idea...why would you have a touch screen in a NAIL salon?

another problem...that i just discovered last night...with this idea is that microsoft is coming/has come out with microsoft surface which is actually an extremely cool technology that even if this idea were viable and put into place i'd say microsoft is some pretty stiff competition...
Check out the videos:
