How to Get More Done in Less Time

How To Run Your Online Business Efficiently So That You Can Grow Revenue Faster And Yet Have More Time for Leisure?

Running an ecommerce website is an incredible business. Many entrepreneurs get to work from home, choose their own hours, spend the time they want with their spouse and kids and still earn incomes that far exceed what they would make in a regular 9-5 job.

One of the biggest reasons people go into ecommerce is so they get to work their own hours and spend time doing the things they love. This is certainly true - but running your site becomes so exciting that these entrepreneurs often find themselves working just as hard as before.

The problem is that no matter how much time you spend tweaking your site, there is always more to do, more copy phrases to test, advertising campaigns to tweak and customer support mails to answer. If you're not careful, these tiny things may consume your time and leave you little time to spend on growing your business.

To be successful you need to reduce the amount of time you spend running the business and optimize the time you spend growing the business.

Some strategies include using customer support software, autoresponders, proper checkout systems and so on.

But optimizing the time you spend growing your business is also critical. It's the surest way to leap across your competitors and boost your monthly income.

excellent and how do we do that? project management is one way...

It's 9am on a Monday and you look at your To Do list and here's what you see.

    1. Optimize Google PPC Campaign
    2. Create Online Community for Site
    3. Send out Weekly Newsletter
    4. Test New Headline Ideas

    Where do you begin?

If you're like most people you maintain a to do list like the one above. It's a useless, wasteful experiment.

The problem with a list like the one above is that it's laden with broken steps. How exactly should you optimize your PPC campaign? How should you start sending out your newsletter? Where exactly do you begin and how do you prioritize?

Because you have no idea about the different complex steps associated with each item, this list is absolutely useless. Items like the ones on your list can't be 'done'.

It would be far more useful to focus on what your next physical activity needs to be to go forward on your project. Even if that activity seems very minor.

So you would expand you to do list to look like this:

    Optimize Google PPC Campaign

    1. Go through campaigns and identify top 3 campaigns
    2. Run keyword analyzer and identify new keywords
    3. Group new Keywords
    4. Create and put up landing page for each Group

    Create Online Community for Site

    1. Research online community software solutions
    2. Set up software
    3. Compose email to mailing list introducing community
    4. Send out email

    Send out Weekly Newsletter

    1. Research articles on the Web
    2. Identify top 3 articles
    3. Write newsletter
    4. Set up newsletter in Autoresponder

    Test New Headline Ideas

    1. Brainstorm 4 new headlines
    2. Add headlines to Multitrack Generator
    3. Add headline rotating script to Web
    4. Analyze results and pick top headline

Now you're no longer staring at a wall to figure out what to do. You have a series of small actionable steps. And because these steps are small - you don't feel overwhelmed by them.

This shift from a to do list to a project list has huge implications for your productivity.

The problem is that many online to do list tools as well as to do lists on office software like Outlook are not flexible enough.

It is recommended to use a simple Word document.

Once you start managing your to do list like this you will find your productivity soaring. The system outlined is described in the best-selling book Getting Things Done by David Allen. The book has become somewhat of a classic in the IT, programming and web development communities and thousands of blogs and sites have been discussing the tactics outlined in this book.

To recommend one book on productivity - this would be it.

Remember, it's not just brains and knowledge that will help you beat your competition and dominate your market: it's also speed and efficiency. The more you can get done in the less time - the faster you can implement, the more time you'll have to spend enjoying the leisure aspects of your life.
