How to Direct market on my own?

    Hi,

In the past I have been using a company that was charging me an arm and leg just to mail out flyers directly to homes. They would create the flyer and mail them. They also would charge me and arm and a leg to do so =).

I have now created my own flyers or copied their flyer and just mass printed them. I want to directly mail them myself. The cost of postage would be about the same. What's the difference between the marketing company mailing it and doing it myself? It seems like it would still cost the same since postage is the same amount? Is there somethign I'm missing? How does that company make money by mailing them out for me?

Any other thoughts on direct marketing techniques?

    Thanks...Robert

They already own the lists with names and addresses (they can be purchased but can be costly). They might also have a contract with USPS (assuming they have many other clients like you where, they would get a discount in volume, after all, its companies like this that keep USPS open for business).

You might just want to bite the bullet on the bill. Unless of course a 1% return rate on DMM is what you like.... :-/

Oh, and other thoughts on Direct Marketing.

Billboards, tv ads, have the same numerical effect as mass mailings (1 of 100 will like what you have and buy, depending on the industry, they might come back too).

Face to face is where its at. There is a 39% higher chance you'll close your customer (again all these numbers I am throwing around are averages of two different industries, one being AT&T U-Verse D2D(door to door) sales numbers and the other is newspaper sales d2d).

Robert, they most likely have bulk mailing permits.

You shoud be aware: in your agreement with them, they have likely reserved the rights to any flyers they design for you. You are likely violating their copyright by copying these flyers on your own. You might want to check into this before you are sued and have bigger problems on your hands.
