How to come up with new business ideas

I want to start another small self-funded business, but my brain has not come up with any ideas yet. I have researched around, asked people, and forced my brain to come up with ideas, but so far nothing. I would like to have this business to be up and running by the end of the year, and I have a lot of experience building small profitable ones, but no business ideas yet (or I should say, no business ideas that suit my personality and lifestyle). Any suggestions how to come up with ideas?

Sounds like your going fro something more local?

I would say constantly be networking. Talk to everyone. Another business guy I know ended up starting a recycling/junking group using his old recycling guy. He basically gave the guy some space, they share warehouse equipment, and he payed his salary while it got going. It seems to be running really well for them and I don't think he knew a thing about recycling when they started.

Meet everyone you can and see how you can make a good deal for the both of you. Do you know a great flourist that works at a chain shop? A tailor working for a national company that makes nothing? I would say your best bet is to find a partner who can do the work well and you provide the cash and business background.

Business ideas should just come to you. One thing I do to help me with them is I try to notice all of the obvious things that happen. Being attentive to everyday life is a very effective way of generating new ways to innovate. During this phase, it will be helpful to write down a lot of things and reflect on them.

Once you get in the habit of using the creative side of your brain, the ideas may come quicker. Think about things you do everyday and maybe take for granted.

Thank you everyone. I was thinking about what you said when I went for my morning walk. So far nothing yet but it doesn't mean they won't come at some point...I am so frustrated but that's my own problem...really appreciate your help. Maybe I need to get a coach or just give up and see if they come to me once I stop trying so hard.

Look inside yourself. Nobody knows you better than you know yourself. That should always be the case. So in order to come up with a new business opportunity, you would have to know what you are good at, what set of marketable skills you have and what you would love to do until you get old and bent. That is just for starters. You should of course know what your strengths and weaknesses are, what ticks you off, what gets you motivated and what makes you want to just stop and drop everything right then and there.

Write down 10 general things you love such as sports, food, computers, etc. Take those 10 items and narrow down further to a more specific niche. This should get you started.

Example: Food > Cooking > Baking > Brownies > Start a Bakery that focuses on different flavors of brownies.

Pour through Entrepreneur.com. They have listed and detailed nearly every conceivable business on their website. Great place to get ideas or spark inspiration for a standard idea with a unique spin of your own.

    Hi,
Talking to people and networking is something that i find helps me out. Without even realizing it; you can come with many ideas. I find what helps me is also when i'm unwinding and relaxing that mind with naturally come up with many ideas.. especially when on vacation! lol

The issue that i face is that i can come up with many ideas.. but lack the power to execute and put these ideas to work. lol

    Thanks,
    Tony

You don't have to reinvent the wheel. The end goal is making money. Find something that already makes money. Figure out how they do it. Then do it yourself.

Many people try to out think the whole process. It's not necessary. The patterns to money making have already been figured out.
