How many hours do YOU put in?

    Hi guys,

Wondering from a serious point of view - how many hours a week do you put into building your enterprise(s)?

I ask, because I've started to get some momentum with hopefully my first - of many - successful companies (after years of failed attempts ;-). I have a great girlfriend, and am a full time entrepreneur.

However, when I say full time, I mean 60 hours a week. But I can't help thinking that's not enough. If I were single, I know I would put every waking hour into it, aside from some playing now and then, of course!

You see, if I don't spend at least 4-5 nights a week - as well as the weekend - with my girlfriend, she thinks I'm working too hard, and wants more of my time. Which I'm not complaining about, as I enjoy every minute of it. But I go to bed thinking I've lost precious time.

What kind of time do you put in? Are you single, full time in your business, etc?

I can't help thinking that Richard Branson, Peter Jones, Alan Sugar, etc all probably put in 80+ hours plus a week, no matter what.

Let me know your thoughts, fellow geniuses...

How many hours do I work? Too many. Listen, working hard is important and long hours are generally required when you're the head of the company, but don't get carried away. Years later you will have made a ton of money and it will seem like you're at the top and you look around and realize that all that money's not so great when you don't have someone to enjoy it with. Spend every second you can with your girlfriend while also being committed to your business. Don't learn the hard way. I know it's a tough balance.

    Hi Scotty,

    Some thoughts...

I've worked 39 hours straight without sleep. Two of my main SQL server disks went down because of overheating...it was not a good day.

On average between 60-70 hrs per week.

When you're working, focus on results. Spend as much time as you need to obtain those results.

When you're with your gf, focus on her. Don't try to fake it...she'll know!

    Good luck.

Well, when I first started here about 2.5 years ago as a "something-or-another" I was working about 80-90 hours a week. Yes that's 7 days a week and well over 12 hours a day. Now I can attest that I was most likely not working 100% of the time. At the time I was single and just a full time employee.

    Fast forward to today...

I've been dating (live with) my girlfriend for just over 2 years. I am part owner of the business, same business previously mentioned. Now I put in about 50hrs a week.

    It's all about working smart...

Definitely not a right answer to the question.
Are your goals important to her as well?
If not, then it makes it a lot more difficult.
