    How Healthcare Reform Hurts us

After looking over the Senate bill I become increasingly inspired to up my plans in running for a seat. It's becoming extremely obvious that no one in the Senate possesses a brain or the will to use it!

If passed it wouldn't begin till after the 2012 elections (smart move right?)
but we'll begin to be taxed immediately. Payroll taxes, cosmetic surgery, and etc just another tax hike.

This bill is going to destroy private insurance.

    (open up the discussion)

From what I understand businesses are required to provide healthcare options to their employees but only if their payroll is $500k a year or more. I feel that is fair and reasonable.

As far as cosmetic surgery goes, if it's a luxury item which I consider cosmetic surgery to be, then it should have a luxury tax. It's not as if the government is banning it.

Also having the government option in place will allow for competition. Without it, insurance companies could just raise their rates and negate the entire thing.

I'm a capitalist, but one that believes there needs to be limits. If the system doesn't work for both businesses and consumers, then it's not a good system.

I think this healthcare reform is a good start. I see a great debate over this reform, but I never see alternative suggestions.

There's plenty of alternative suggestions just because you've chosen to be closed minded and have tuned them out.

We need reform but this legislation is ridiculous, it's a recipe for socialize medicine. Basically, how health insurance works is a company collects premiums from healthy individuals and if some of them happen to get sick they can make much larger payments to cover a larger amount on the sick. (It measures risk)

This legislation destroys the concept and will put these companies out of business. What it does is make it illegal for them to discriminate someone with a pre-existing condition and makes it illegal to charge someone more who has a condition. So, this plan eliminates the need for insurance. Why buy insurance? Why, would I pay for insurance year after year when I can go ahead and buy insurance after I get sick. Imagine if Fire Insurance was sold this way if you didn't have to have it until your house burns down. So, My house burns down and then I pay a premium and reap hundreds of thousands of dollars.

They senate said the penalties are in place but the first penalty in place when it starts is in 2014 and it's a 95$ penalty a year.

The insurance won't be receiving premiums from the healthy because all they have to do is start paying when the get sick and the only choice insurance companies have. Is to start jacking up the premiums which will cause more and more to drop out of their coverage.

Of course theirs a government provider but the government provider is still more expensive then the penalties for not having insurance so people aren't going to sign up for that.

These companies will go out of business long before 2014 and when they do and people get sick they have only the government provider who now can only pay for this through taxing the citizens because a majority of the propose taxes to fund this came from the insurance companies. Bravo America.

I seriously doubt your a "capitalist" and have any idea about Free Markets.

And to everyone that blames the HMO's and thinks the Government needs to wave their magic wand to fix everything. Why don't you take a look who allowed the HMO's their monopolies in Health care?

40 Years ago we had the worlds greatest health care system because of the lack of government intervention it's amazing how fast people forget that.

Neither of those comments made sense. The government surveillances houses when they feel there is a need to do so. You'll find maybe one house out of every million being watched. Get real people..

His location is set as CA. So I'm not sure. Some of his posts in other threads that seemed rather Anti-American as well.

How can you not agree with not getting fat.... I mean how can you attack my opinion on that, if people were not over weight then we wouldn't need an over haul of health care plain and simple.

Well the McDonald's thing was a little stereotypical.

Although I agree that we have a surplus of fat people in this country, it goes far beyond that. We can start with tort reform.

Of course, politicians won't go after the lawyers. After all, half of them were lawyers before they chose to place themselves even lower on the food chain (or is it higher?)

CAbusinessman, I can appreciate your passion on the issue but calling me close minded right off the bat plus your later insults are just ridiculous.

Also just to point out, you also discuss no specific alternative in your reply. If you feel it's awful, what do you propose should be done? I'd honestly like hear what would be another alternative since as you so kindly pointed out I am close minded.
