How hard would this be to do?

How hard would be to attain the retail price list for a grocery store? For multiple stores?

I am trying to think of a business concept and was wondering if grocery stores are willing to give up this kind of information if it will attract business?

    any ideas?

    Grocery Prices Change almost Daily

    Greetings,

I promoted a home grocery club years back and I tried to get updated prices from local stores for comparison, and the only way you can do this is to personally survey prices for stores do not give up this information to anyone, especially their competition. The grocery business is extremely competitive, so forget any cooperation on prices.

    Success to all,

Attaining a price list for a store is VERY difficult. Many large chains, such as Walmart, forbid you from recording and distributing their prices in any medium. If you are caught taking notes of prices, stock levels, etc you can be banned from the store.

Ouch. I had no idea stores were so strict on this; however, it makes sense.

One recommendation I would make, and perhaps I chose this only because I enjoy design so much, would be to take high-res pictures of the shelves (~12-15 per aisle depending on how large the store is), zipping up all the photos and outsourcing the project. Just a thought of mine - good luck.

    No photography either.

I know why Walmart does this. If you've ever noticed, going from one Walmart to another will gain you enitrely different prices. Each store has different pricing depending on whats in demand in that area. Furthermore, Walmart doesn't want competitors seeing their prices and then setting theirs lower.

interesting that they have such a tight grip on prices. I guess they rollback prices on major items to attract ppl in the store and then charge a premium on other products.

but if i think back on when online airline booking was first introduced, one would have thought that they airline industry wouldn`t be giving up the prices so easy.

    Just a thought

    Thanks for the info guys

lol sounds like that's top secret info. I bet the distributors wouldn't even leak this type of stuff, if they knew what was best for them.

You'd probably have to gather that data yourself, or from "bird-doggers" or other people on the street gathering info for you.

In real estate there are "information" companies like Co-Star, Pierce Eislen, and others who do nothing but make phone calls to brokers trying to compile data. Fortunately for them, brokers want to move units, so they cooperate.

In this case, with the level of competition, you'll probably have to gather the data yourself like Warranties-For-Less noted. It is, however, something you can start doing locally and then expand out.

Good luck, because stores are not interested in competition and not willing to give away their product suppliers or prices paid. It's a conf. issue.

Try connectting online with Store Owners who talk and compare prices nationally.
These guys online want to improve their businesses.....but you have to act and talk like one of them. And be cunning as a fox so they never figure out who you really are.
