How hard is it to sell 10,000 unit of anything!?

Let's say you made a product and it has a decent market. Not exactly mainstream, but not exactly niche either. You know there are definately people out there who need this. It cost you $20 to make and you want to sell for $30.

Your initial goal is to sell 10,000 unit. How hard would this be?

And what's the best approach to take in order to maximum the chance for success (selling 10k units). Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

What is your price point, how much demand is there and what sort of market access to do you have?

I am going to face the same problem with a product I am co-inventing, I have never tried to market a product in this manner, to retail chains and such, im sure it will be a great learning experience.

If it's a quality shirt, it may not take long at all. I sell shirts 12 to 150 at a time, with the company name and logo embroidered on them. Just now waiting for a repeat order from the library for another 4 dozen +.

The only thing I've sold 10,000 or more at one time was Bic ink pens and woven wrist bands. Most of my orders are for 250 to 1000 pieces. But, it sure beats selling onesies and twosies.

It depends on how you are selling it, for example if you manage to get into big retail chains such as wal mart it'll be pretty easy but if you sell via your website or a few shops itll be alot harder.

How would you go about selling to big chains ? Where would you get a number to speak to someone ? If anyone knows, it would be good to know

big chains? you mean jewelry right.
You might try and get it in a jewelry store or in a jewelry section of a large retail store but i would suggest that the best way is to have a range of jewelry in your own personal shop.

you misunderstood.. I meant, how do you go about selling to large companies, who have a chain of shops. Who are large franchises, with hundereds of retail outlets. I didn't mean chains as such.

It depends on what the product is and on your determination. If your driven you will find a way to sell what ever goal you set for yourself.
