How do you make a pop up before someone leaves your site?

    Hey everyone,

I was just curious if anyone knew how to do this.

You know those sites, like clickbank sellers, that sale a product or service on thier site

then when you go to exit the site a pop up comes up with a "Stop, before you leave, get this product half off"

How do you do that for your own site?

    - Josh

Thats a coding component. Go to dynamicdrive.com it may have something regarding that to help you out. Or ask a forum member.

Thats a terrible idea though, any time I get that on a website it really pisses me off (as I couldn't care less what it says) and I not only ignore that link from that point on, but blacklist as well.

Yes I agree, I hate these messages. Only if it makes sense like I maybe filled out half a form, or something similar. Is very easy to code, but for real usage I recommend you find a very good reason for it.

That's what I was going to say. Put yourself in the consumers position. The goal is to get people to your website and to keep them there. But, it should be voluntary, not forced. Let them leave, but make them want to come back by offering superb quality and value.

It's called an "Exit Popup". They have one with resale rights that I used to use called Exit Prophet. You can buy it from the link below for 50 cents.

You can either use Javascript or PHP, but this will most likely lower the respect and reputation to and from your customers. Pop-ups are not only an annoyance, but sometimes a disruption to your customer's computer.
An ounce of action is worth more than a tonne of thought.

I think some servers might have it blocked. Not so sure.

I totally agree that if you do this you will not only annoy people who visit your site but also any future visitors. You need have most things on your website user driven. That tells you also what they are interested in seeing rather than putting multiple things in their screens with popups etc. Good luck!

I think it really depends on the purpose of the popup. If you're giving the customer a discount on the regular price it might actually help you make more sales. When I took the exit popup off my website my sales actually decreased.
