How do you keep track of your ideas?

    Hey!

If you're anything like me, you have ideas coming to you all the time. I am also pretty unorganised which doesn't help!

So, my question is, how do you keep track of all your ideas? At the moment all of mine are spread across my desk, and hidden under revision guides which doesn't help!

As part of my 2009 resolutions, I have decided to become more organise, so I am getting a system in place and keeping all my accounts (for once!) in order.

How do you cope with all your projects and keeping your ideas organised?

    Sophie

I would say I am like you, as in I do get ideas all the time. I'm not the most organized person ever either as it turns out.

Since most of my ideas are simply that, just ideas, I just have a directory on my computer with a folder dedicated to each idea. The folder is usually just empty with maybe a text file synopsis of the idea until I have time to work on it at a future date. Its primarily just a way to place-hold my ideas so I won't forget them, and also give me a place to put any information once I do start working on them.

I write all my ideas down in a small notebook and give a basic guide of what needs to be researched/done. Then as I start working on it more I create a file for it on my external hard drive (I fully recommend have one just in case), and a paper file which is kept among other files and paper work.

Organization can actually discourage creativity, so be careful here. The trick is to find a system that works for you, not one which conforms to a "standard of organization". If you know what's going on and it works for you (i.e. it's effective), why change that?

I have an "idea notebook".... It is literally just that, a binder (so I can add/remove pages if needed with blank sheets of paper in them.

It's not organized (no table of contents or anything) at all really. You have to use the old "thumb through" method to find what your looking for.

    It's really effective for me.
