How do you check/verify if a foreign company is legit?

    Hi,
How do you verify if a foreign company is legitimate...is there a foreign BBB? Has anyone has any experience with purchasing from a foreign company?

    Thanks.

    Unbelievable!

Excited Newbie, here's some information that is actually helpful:

    1. Verify their contact information. In order to avoid being traced by law enforcement authorities, most scam artists will not provide legitimate contact information. They will provide a fake company address, telephone number and fax number or persuade buyers to contact them by cell phone only. Before entering into any transactions with a foreign company, use Google to verify all contact information.

    2. Verify their company registration number. In many countries, businesses have to register with government authorities and obtain a unique company registration number. If the company you're dealing with cannot provide a unique company registration number, walk away from the transaction. To verify the registration number the company provided, visit their local administrative government website. Be warned however, most foreign government websites are written in their countries language, so you may be unable to read what is written. Another option is to contact their countries Bureau of Industry & Commerce. You can also use a third-party authentication service. For example, Alibaba's Trust Pass.

A final word of warning: Neither of the aforementioned safeguards are 100% foolproof. So in the final analysis, if something just doesn't feel right walk away from the transaction.
