How do things like this go viral?

Why does it seem like lame sites like DudeFaceIt.com - Fact! go viral and the ones with actual use don't? I guess that's just because most things that go viral are boosted by the high school/ college aged kids and lets face it they like some pretty dumb things. Jersey Shore anyone?

It comes down to knowing your audience and what appeals to them. And ultimately, I don't believe you can overthink a "viral" idea. Spontaneity and simplicity is part of it.

I completely agree but just imagine the power you would have if you understood how to capture it. I don't think it's possible but it would be a nice resume builder.

The unfortunate thing is things that go viral get their boost before they are popular so everyone that copies them in attempts to gain traffic or of course money is left in the dust.
