How Do Some Young Professionals Get Ahead So Quickly?

The RedEye, a Chicago Tribune publication came out with a cover story article today on this topic and thought I would share it here:

    Fast-track Stars:

They’re young, powerful and successful-you may be surprised how they reached the top of the career ladder so fast.

Julie Smolyansky was 27 when she became a CEO. Her father died suddenly of a heart attack, leaving her to run the publicly traded yogurt company he’d founded 16 years before. ”The outside world didn’t believe I could handle it,” Smolyansky, now 34, recalls. “But failure was not an option.” Read The Rest Here

I also think hard word came into play..

If she worked at her father's company for 16 years, she would have been an expert at the industry.

I feel the young generation has that extra energy and charm that oldies or even people in their 40s don't have.
They carry that extra energy with them.
They don't walk, they run to do their work.
That little extra effort works for them and makes them a little more successful.

Why does everyone want to make money 'fast'? That seems to be the desire of every inexperienced entrepreneur on this site. A true entrepreneur realizes making money and building a business has absolutely nothing to with speed. It has to do with the actual building of the business and its sustainability. If you are looking to make money fast you are bound to fail. If you are ready to commit to the long term success that comes from years of hard work you may realize real success...

i dont think the nature of this website is to make money fast, it just so happens that some individuals have completed alot while still young. With that said alot of people always like to know how they did it, and the more knowledge that is shared the higher chance of potential duplication.

if someone can do something in in half the time it takes, then why not try to see how and why!

I wish I had this mindset, but I am stuck on being able to retire by 30 and retire at 35, and that is just my personality.

To answer the OPs question.. People get ahead quickly by having good connections, I do not know as I have no experience.. But I can only assume in the corporate world the saying holds true that its not what but who.

Today's generation is lazy! They want everything for nothing. They are stuck living in a rap video mentality that keeps them from ever developing any sort of foundation to succeed. There is no success following them. The only thing that is following them is my damn tax money that ends up getting spent on their lazy asses when they are out of work!

Stop for just one second and make a list of your skills and desires. Now take that list and use it to develop a plan for building a business. Notice at no point did I ask you to list who you know.

Having the mentality that you will only succeed if you 'know' someone or something is a hindrance to your success. Let go of it now and you'll be much better off in the future.

I disagree... I stopped coming on here for a while because everyone I tried to work with and/or mentor always ended up with the same problem. They want everything now... You can get them to commit to a project for more then a few days at a time. If it doesn't work they quit... I've had more then my fair share of experience with people on this site to justify my statements.

Yup, well said. It will be tough for Generation Y to collectively outdo the achievements of the Baby Boomers.

Thats not my mentality, I was just answering the question. I assume when he said professionals he meant people working as employees for large companies climbing the corporate ladder..
