How Do I Find Clothing Manufacturers in California

I've just graduated from school and I've been contracted by a company to research clothing manufacturing in California (because they are moving to LA and because they heard that it is the place to have it done).

They are looking to start a suit company with an urban edge (more for boutiques and fashion stores than suit stores).

They're essentially starting from scratch, so they want me to give them a report detailing what needs to be done in order to start a clothing company with names and prices.

I've found some lists of manufacturers from basic searches, but all the results are trying to sell lists for hundreds of dollars.

If anyone has any advice, or can direct me to somewhere I can find a list of manufacturers in LA, or has any other insight into the clothing/fashion industry it would be much appreciated.

American Apparel which is based out of and does production in Los Angeles. Not familiar with all the products they make. it may just be tshirts and the like.

I'm looking for companies that specifically manufacture outside designs. I know companies like american apparel will sell their stuff wholesale, but I'm looking to give some original designs and fabrics to these companies to be manufactured.

I'm in the same boat as those of you trying to locate clothing manufacurers based in the United States, especially in the southern California area. I'm disabled but am designing clothing for individuals with similar conditions. Looking for suggestion. I've made contact with American Apparel however was told that they provide products only to those who are licensed silk screeners. Am waiting for response back from Romo Productions. Making suits in California or anywhere in the USA, is going to be very costly. I would start with overseas manufacturer and as long as you have specification sheets and a trusted source you will double your gross profit margin.
