How do free service websites obtain profit?

I have a question. As I was visiting many websites, I have always wondered how websites that give out free service generate revenue? Is it just through ads? Some websites don't even have ads. Through what then? Can someone answer these questions. I'm still learning.

Yes it is with ads and affiliate programs. Try Google Adsense

Those that don't offer ads or affiliate links will be planning to in the future.

A common strategy is to build an audience/community first and then monetize the website when it has become established.
