How did you register your business?

I wanted to get an idea of how everyone registered their business and how much it costs? Did you use an attorney or an online company? Or did you file everything yourself? How much were your state filing fees?

If you are talking about a basic business license then you may need to contact your local state or city. If you are looking to get an EIN you can do that at Welcome To IRS.org

Registering a business or a DBA (doing business as) is very simple and inexpensive. In my area (I've registered several businesses) we go to the county clerk's offices and fill out a simple one page form and pay under $10. They require a legal notice be placed in the local newspaper for 3 consecutive weeks. You just go to the newspaper office and they know what to do. It's just a little ad that states the name of your business. That costs a bit more, but under $100. That's it.

You get a nice certificate with your business name.

Depending upon your business you may need to register with the state to get a reseller or tax ID number to be able to charge and pay state sales tax.

Again depending upon on the type of business you may also need a business license.

Just Google your city, county and state government offices to get all the info.
