Question How can I publish a book?

I have a book - It fits niche which exists on a small scale which I believe I can push out to a MUCH larger audience. I want to get this book published quite badly.

Has anyone published a book or can you recommend a software to put it into? I have the story board done on paper and the actual "book" done in word. I will want to mass produce it (not nessiscarily mass but for sure over 1000) and I will have lots of pictures.

I heard of amazons createspace and am not sure about it. I liked blurb, but there VERY costly and are more or less for printing just one or two books for family members.

Another problem I am running into is making a cover. I did my own artwork and photography for the insides, but I would like to have a cover made. Is their a good program to write it in?

So basically, what I need is:
    1. A software to write a book in (import from word if possible)
    2. A review of createspace (is it good to use with royalties)
    3. A way/software to make a cover (preferably not cs5, but I do own it, I just do not know how to make a cover in it!)
    4. Should I go for a publisher locally or go with an internet site?

Thank you VERY much for you help!

Whatever you do, please consider using a good editor to handle the proofreading/flow of the book. It will be worth it.

    Publishing.

Is there a way to format the book on my own via a software before I get an editor involved? I want the startup costs to be as low as possible.

    electronic product reviews

For publishing a book these are main point to follow...

    1) First you have to finish and start editting the book. No publisher will look at a rough draft, especially if it is still incomplete.
    2) Agents -- what do they do, exactly?

I'm no expert but a quick google search of "opensource desktop publishing" suggested Scribus - Scribus.net . You might want to check that out first since it is free.
