    Hot Dog Vendor

I'm thinking of starting a Hot Dog vendor downtown in my city this summer.

Any tips and advice other than the usual that are given on google?

I only have 1500 to spend. What kind of carts are available?

You can make some decent money with that. Hotdog carts new start at around $1,800 and up. You may want to buy a used one but in good condition. Check craigslist.org ebay.com and local restaurant supply shops.

Find a local Home depo or lows and become their in front of shop guy, just kick back a small percentage.

    Location is everything,

Also give the employees a very good price, where you still make some money. They are your steady business

Before you start serving food, you need to read up on hygene and food preparation standards for your locality.

Also, you may need to pay a street/mall vendor's license to operate.

Do a forum search for "hot dog" in the topic to find past posts about this topic.

    Good luck.

Also remember, keep food costs as low as you can without sacrificing quality and you can't put your rose colored "It's cheep and taste fineto me" glasses. In the food business, you need QUALITY to STAY in business

Amen - too many people don't care about the quality - that's why there are so many crappy restaurants out there.

Make it good and clean and come up with a gimmick that would make your hotdog stand way better than any other stand or even reastarurant in the area.

I just started a similar business. Bagel cart via hot dog cart. It has 2 grills and a deep fryer and tons of ice storage. As well up top storage.

When starting this business assume you will make no sales. Dont just put numbers down on paper and say okay i can invest carelessly because ill just make that back in a week. No assume you'll make nothing until you start actually doing it.

Anyway. Consider how your going to transport this cart. The bigger it is the harder it is to move. Where will you store your cart/food? Where will you park your car?

I have had my bagel cart open for 2 weeks and so far things have been very slow. It is actually cheaper for me to stay closed than open so far. URghh.

personally dont waste money on a course from them. Contact a prive proctor and see if they will give you a 1-2 hour run down of the course and then take it right then and there. Theres hours of useless stuff for a hotdog vendor to know. Call around until you find one because mine might as well just of taken the test for me! But that was just my experience.

Little businesses like these are great for some extra money during the summer months.

I personally have 3 shaved Ice carts around our local lake, and its a great money making venture.

You do generally have to pay rent for the spot for your stand, whether to the city or a store where your outside of. You could make the small cart yourself honestly, you need a small freezer area for storage of the hotdogs and buns, containers for the condements, and rig up a small gas grill that runs off propane. Shouldn't be that big of an undertaking TBH.

The Hot Dog Cart business is a excellent business to get into, It can give you the freedom that a normal job cant give you and if you are looking to earn good wages a four figure salary weekly is not unusual, Its an ideal business to start, Some might say that difficult with licensing but you don't necessarily need one, there's private property Shopping Centres, Markets, Nightclubs etc, But apply to City Council's there Always Putting out to tender pitches and for events up and down the country, Just do your home find a spot before you purchase your Hot dog Cart and things should work out fine for you,
