Hiring People...

Business is picking up, and we need more people to put through our training course and become cerified Pet Groomers. The question is...how do I get those people?? Im looking for creative low-cost ways to do this for now....so far Im using yard signs and today's activities pulled in two potential employees. Thats not enough.
Any ideas?

Thank you

Its good to know that everything's going well.

My advice is to look at a place where the people you're looking for may be. Since you're doing something with pet, a local vet may be able to help out, or some place that is animal related (an animal shelter perhaps?). You may be able to put up "Help Wanted" posters at these places. Be creative.

If not that, you could do the old fashioned thing and post your requirements in a local newspaper.

I would go look at colleges and put up signs. Summer is coming up and if you choose a responsible student(s) your business would be pretty profitable.

I understand what you mean about college students, but I try to avoid them. Were looking for sombody that wants a career, not just a job for the Summer.

Sonny, I had an ad in the local newspaper, but it did nothing.

Ill try targeting pet related places.

Thanks for all your advice.

You can always try and steal employees from competitors (i.e. pet stores, groomers, etc.). Flyers could work, online job postings (monster, hot jobs, craigslist), also career development or job placement services in your area. Just a handful of ideas. Where are you located?

Best of luck!

Try this

That advice about targeting pet related businesses is a great idea. Personally, I have worked in both a pet store with grooming services and at a recruiting firm. Here is my advice.
Don't try and steal groomers from the big places unless you can offer decent $$. When I worked at the pet store, the groomer made more $ than the store manager. They always like good people, and when they find them, they do their best to keep them.
If you're looking to train someone to be a groomer, try interest groups for pets. Volunteers at the SPCA or animal shelter, animal welfare societies, kennel clubs, cat and dog show patrons, things like that. Anywhere that would attract people who enjoy pets, but don't do it professionally just yet. You're bound to find someone who is willing to do it. Maybe if you have a pet trade show coming up in your area, set up a booth. Promote your services through the booth, and hire people who don't seem interested in buying.
Thats all for now!
