Hiring adults as a young entrepreneur

My company has reached the point where I don' have time to go out and find new clients anymore through cold calls and flyer distribution. I'm assembling a sales team allover the Greater Toronto Area. This will serve two functions: (1) Free up some of my time so that I can focus on my current clients and administrative work, and (2) Expose my company to areas of the city I haven't even soaked my feet in yet.

Here's the mental blip I need to overcome though. I am 21, and the people who are interested in the positions are all 30+. This will be a straight commission job for them, since I am not in a position to hire someone on a salary or per hour basis. Also it won't be employment but subcontracting. This way I don't have to provide worker's compensation insurance (or am I wrong?).

I don't want to waste anyone's time, so in your opinion is a sole commission-based job worth the while to people aged over 30?

In Kansas worker's comp is required for salaries over 20k per year. I beleive contracting counts as salary so if I were you in Kansas (idk where you are) and I planned on doing over 20K in commissions then yes I wold get the insurance.

The mental thing is just that. You are presenting them with a job. Make it look good for you but the truth is the truth.

As for the straight commision that's not easy to say without knowing more. Is the commission high? Do you care about turnover? Setting a salary can be decently complex. How much knowledge or experience do you need to sell yoru product? Any licenses? How many of your product can a person be expected to sell in a month? What is the planned commission? does this equal a reasonable salary for their experience and licensing? If so, then yes commission only is doable!
