    What I mean is if you buy it wholesale and then sell it for the average price it sells not marking it up high.

    costs me 5c to print a new disc or $1 to offer hosting but I can charge several $hundred for the disc or even more every month for subscriptions

    In general, premium products have the biggest margins although they have the lowest trading volumes.

    but....i remember looking at industry wide data for this a few years back
    service businesses had the highest net profitability ratios..specifically, law firms at like 60%.
    the lowest was food retail..restaurants, cafes at like 4%

    alcohol; beers & liquors can have high markups especially if you buy into established businesses with grandfathered prices. They range from 35-60+% in my state at least. This is better than most products because of the pure volume that a liquor store can sell.
