Wink Hi board! I'm new here! Get to know me!

    Hello everyone!
I am happy to find this board!

I have some questions, but before I ask them, I would like to tell all of you more about myself and my team.

We are three University students from Cleveland Ohio. We are currently working on a social networking based targeted advertisement software application for cell phones to fill a market gap. We have been getting ready for the Nokia competition which is in mid November. We are 3/4th of the way through finishing software and will be ready for the all important testing phase by the end of the year.

The team consists of the three members: Two computer engineer students and myself. The business structure is not formal yet but there is a 50/50 partnership between me and one of the computer science students and the other teammate is helping us achieve our goals for yet unlear benefits. I am a 2nd year electrical engineering student (still undergrad) with a passion for entrepreneurialism and aerospace technology. Both of my team mates are in the final months of their college career and have very little time away from their studies that they eagerly dedicate to the project.

The work load is divided in the following manner: I handle the business side of the project and my team mates handle the product development.

Our funding is very poor. It is based solely on my student loans and my eBay business – both of which support me personally as well.

Everyone’s lack of time to dedicate to the project has caused me plenty of anxiety and sleepless nights. I recently made a critical assessment of our current situation and with the deadline nearing and pressures shifting towards my side of the project I made a tactical decision of taking a break from college for the rest of the semester and the following semester.

While since my early childhood I have been interested in everything business and I have plenty of small [literally] business exploits under my belt - I found myself desperately trying to stay afloat in the formal business oceans and lately have been struggling to keep my chin above the water.
The incredible volumes of "relevant" information and tasks that I am supposed to assimilate while having hard time finding a prioritization routine – causes me a great deal of anxiety. With the due date for the contest nearing I am starting to panic and am hoping that this community of friends could calm me down and help me divide and conquer.

    Thank you in advance,

    Sincerely,

    PV

Well good luck with everything. You sound a lot like me a few years ago.

If you are interested in aerospace, you may want to checkout NASA's Reduced Gravity research projects out of Johnson Space Center. You basically design, construct, and test a research project aboard NASA's KC-135 Vomit Commit.

You will have the opportunity to work with a team, do some community and media outreach and ultimately fly in zero gravity.

I did this in 2003 and 2004 and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I'm not sure what school you go to, your college may already participate.

You can find more info here:

or feel free to ask me.

    Smile Wow that seems amazing!

    Wow that seems amazing!

What experiment did you work on?

Thanks for the link I hope to check this out once I'm on solid biz ground again.

When I was 5 my father took me aboard a passenger jet that performed certain scheduled stress test maneuvers (sharp dives and banks)- I was soooooo sooooooooo scared. I became very alarmed and would not calm down until I was seated in the cockpit behind the pilot. I felt like I was in heaven! It was great!

    Thank you for your reply,

So what I call you jasaunders? Jas?

    You can call me Josh.

In 2003 I worked on a nonmechanical electromagnetic compressor. It is a fluid pump with no moving parts.

In 2004 I was the electrical team lead and we developed an ion propulsion system. A high voltage device that can move an object through space based on a high voltage potential, using no moving parts or compressed air.

Amazing experience. If you like building and inventing stuff, engineering and aerospace, doing some research and working hard, I highly recommend it. It is somewhat competitive to get in, you have to work hard, but it is definately worth it. There is no way to explain to people what it is like to be floating in the air. I had 15 minutes of zero gravity in total. I would do it again in a second if I had the chance.

Here are a few good pictures from my trip:

This one is me in an altitude chamber. In this picture I am completely unconscious from hypoxia:

These are the people next to me floating on the ceiling:

    Welcome to YE

    PV,

    Great to have you here.

And Josh, those are some awesome photos. I have looked into doing this through Zero-G and both my brother and I plan to do this sometime in 2008. Looks amazing and at $3800 per person, I am hoping it is. Here is that site for zero G. http://www.gozerog.com/ (worth checking out some of those photos on there).

    Cheers,

    Adam T.

Yeah Adam, I have looked into that too. If I ever get a chance I would love to do it again.

I think on that flight though, you don't get nearly as much time in Zero-g I have heard, but it would still be awesome. I highly suggest it if you get the chance.

Sleepless nights, wondering what's going to happen if you don't make that next buck or key deadline is all part of succeeding where others fail.

Stay strong, try to find a way to relax and keep pushing. If it was easy everyone would do it...

    Hi there,

Good luck with this. What does the nokia competition entail? Is the idea to market any adverts via cell phones, or just manufacturer?
