    Here's a real idea

    To All,

    Entrepreneur's (Here) have the ideas
VC's, Angels, other financial institutes have the money
    Programmers have the skills

Is there anywhere out there where all three can come together in an entreprenurial way?
By this I mean, not just to offer each others' services for a price, but to truly form partnerships and JV's?

Can someone here start something like this?

I for one am missing the programmer partner.

    yes, there is

venture backed hits (i.e. paypal, MSFT, AMZN etc) produce millionaires /talent

these guys leave their employers to start/seed new companies, backed by vc who previously funded their employer

that's the standard, tried, true and tested model for venture backed entrepreneurship

everything else has proven it self to be unworkable (i.e. government programs, incubators )

Is there anywhere out there where all three can come together in an entreprenurial way? Yes, inside a successful venture backed startup (i.e Google, YouTube, MySpace and many others)

    Agree, but

true, akula, but can someone take it a step easier and group these employees/programmers/whatever they are anonymously, where they can
fish and sort out stupid ideas to gold mines?

I am sure they get tons of emails, requests for offers/partnerships

    well...that's a valid point

i guess what you're ultimately suggesting is a system that helps strangers do business with one another

it's a nice thought, especially for little guys like us

then again, these systems have always failed to deliver, because entrepreneurship is not the kind of thing where a bunch of strangers can put something together and live happily ever after

if you wanna do venture backed startups, there are no shortcuts, and I won't characterize this as "unfortunate" for a number of reasons

like everybody who's been down this road, your best bet is to be patient and plug your self into your local startup ecosystem

go to the events, keep in touch with people, ask for advice, send out holiday cards and by the time you do your 3/4th startup, you're gonna have prior working relationships with venture capitalists, or ceos who can introduce you to venture capitalists

I know man, it'd be magical if technology can overcome all of these social networking and communications issues - but it won't, because hooking up with some one for a friendster date is not the same as hooking up with a co-founder, or prospective shareholders/directors

positive note: if there is an opportunity in this thread, it's about consultancy.

the problem is that entrepreneurs face uncertainty, have little cash, and don't have the rime to go and seek good ongoing advice.

the solution is to create industry specific newsletters where entrepreneurs submit thoughts/analysis on issues relevant to their sector

this is a good solution because a) cheap to implement b) shown to work in legal industry c) profitable (user generate content) d) it solves a real problem by a) connecting entrepreneurs with other entrepreneurs and by b) giving cash strapped entrepreneurs access to relevant, timely advice

that's the sort of thing I can see being implemented rather than some hypothetical matchmaking service

I´ve always wondered what dave said. I get ideas every day but I don't have much money so most ideas get lost in the void.

I hope one day I get funds to materialize everything that comes up in my head.

jpmorgan- very interesting site, it's still new so I will wait for it to mature, but is close to what i'm looking for, good catch!

The last two days of spamming posts just proved me wrong!

Angels wouldn't need a forum to go through such large amounts of garbage
and just really stupid ideas that were blurted on to here with no research whatsoever. I am very dissappointed at the people who post crap (Not the moderators). The losers of course are the true entrepreneurs in here.

This is exactly what I've been talking about for the past month.

When I first got "knee deep" in starting a business I cruised the internet up and down hoping to find a place where "real" entrepreneurs (whatever real means), venture capitalists/investors and programmers all hung out.

And then I realized, thats absurb. People who really have the millions to invest in companies aren't cruising message boards looking for ideas to invest in, because those who are truly invested in their concept will take the time to make their stuff KNOWN to this select group of people.

What you're really asking for is a way around the normal path of finding investment - developing an idea, possibly developing a product or prototype, doing some market research, pushing your product on investors. You're asking for a way to cheat - to put ideas out there on a board, have an investor say "number 14, I like that idea" and then you run with that, knowing that it has piqued investor interest.

    :::shakes head:::

Why would any credible investor use an internet message board or community to find potential investment opportunities, when he/she is bombarded with credible investment opportunities in the FLESH (presentations, prototypes, emails, even office visits) on a daily basis!?!???

Get in the game and find a new way to play. Investors and programmers aren't going to make this any easier for you. They shouldn't have to, when you really get down to it....

And don't think I'm putting you on blast, because I'm not. I'm simply voicing the realization I Had to come to, because I was in the same place, three months ago, wondering where all the "real" entrepreneurs, "real" investors and "real" Idea-Whores hung out. They don't hang out in one place virtually, because they're out DOING. And they certainly aren't trying to fill their world with more pseudo-entrepreneurs like ourselves, they have enough friends who are doing things.

You're not going to get funds sitting on a message board hoping to get funds to help you materialize your dreams.

Have you developed a business plan, concept document or pitch presentation on any one of these ideas?! Something that if you were sitting on the plane tomorrow and found out the guy in Seat 4F is a venture capitalist, you could email to him within 4 hours of getting off the plane?!?!

If not, you're still not ready.
