    Help with College T-shirt Advertising

    Hi everyone, my name is Drew. I go to school on Long island, NY. Where I live, there are many big, popular college campuses within close proximity to each other. There are also a lot of college bars/clubs nearby too. Because many of these colleges have rules/policies not allowing flyers or advertising on their bulletin boards, I thought of a new idea. My idea was t-shirt advertising with passing out flyers for these local college bars. Some bright, colored shirt (bright pink) that eventually people recognize as my company, for example the light blue for Tiffany & Co. Paying students in need of money $10 or so for everyday they wear the shirts to their classes. The shirts can easily be customized and ordered online and would be even cheaper the higher the quantity if the idea grows.

    OK, so what do you guys think? Has the idea been attempted? Does t-shirt advertising, with the idea of passing out flyers, if allowed, really work? Any help is much appreciated.

    -How much would these bars/clubs be paying for there name on the shirt? Im assuming you would charge based on how many shirts they want.

    -How would you know when these people are wearing the shirts?

    I could see it working for big events or if there is a band playing.

    If you could come up with some cool and catchy sayings for a bar, that would bring more people the bar which would make the bar want to do more business with you.

    Food for thought...

    We are home to the biggest block party in the US and maybe one of the largest halloween parties...
    Mifflin Street block party at UW Madison brings in around 20,000 people each year
    State Street Halloween party brought in around 100,000 people each year, until 2005 when the government stepped in and took control on the event...Since then it brings in around 30,000 people. (go figure, the gov. ruining something)

    Each year people come up with different shirts for the block party and halloween party. If you know WHERE to reach the people, it could be lucrative.

    The biggest aspect I see is how to know they are wearing the shirts and going to classes. I think some creative marketing is more than doable in this fashion. The hardest part is that you are going to have to sell to a bar at a set price and then figure out how to split that to pay people and make money.

    I would try making shirts for frat events and school events. Design what they want and include your name somewhere on there. This will get you enough money to start giving out free (or very cheap) shirts. Not many people would turn down a free shirt, especially if it looks like something that belongs in a store.

    I like the idea Steven, just be sure to be careful what advertising you are selling on what shirts. Pizza places and the like probably won't mind being on a party shirt. Other businesses might take offense if their logo is seen on a kids shirt in his arrest photos!

    It is possible there is money selling advertising on shirts you intend to give away. Sell a sleeve print for $500, front and center $1000, small back $100 (idk the actual prices, these are off the top of my head). The premise is you will print the logo onto say 250 shirts and pass them out to the students where other students will see. I could see this sales pitch working, and your most likely get paid up front so you would have no capital out.

    Both ideas are just like passing out flyers... except they are shirts and people want to wear them!
